The UMU will turn the Faculty of Medicine and Nursing of the Espinardo campus into the 'Integrated Services Building' (08/02/2019)

The Government Council of the University of Murcia has approved in its session this Friday the infrastructure plan of the institution for the period 2018-2022, which is vertebrate in the responsible use of public resources and revolves around two transversal axes : the improvement of access and mobility in the different university campuses;

and the provision of new resources for teaching and research.

Among the priority objectives derived from these main axes is the fulfillment of the objectives of sustainable development, as well as the security and integration of the users.

One of the projects that contemplates this plan is the remodeling of the headquarters of the Faculty of Medicine and Nursing, in the Espinardo campus, which will be renamed 'Integrated Services Building'.

Once the work is completed, this building will have a congress center, an auditorium, a convention center and a social recreation area.

In addition, it will house an area of ​​assistance services and different university services, as well as some government offices of the University.

The works for this reconditioning will begin once the transfer of the dependencies of the faculty to the new aulario of the campus of Health Sciences, in the surroundings of La Arrixaca, is complete.

The plan presented provides that this classroom, currently under construction, is fully operational in the course 2020/2021.

The infrastructure plan approved by the Governing Council also includes the following actions up to 2022:

Progressive elimination of all architectural barriers existing on university campuses.

Improvement of social areas and generation of new spaces that improve the performance of the members of the university community.

Improvement of access to the health sciences campus.

In the first phase (coverage of the rambla of the thieves), will be added the construction of a new access, which will speed up traffic and will be completed in the second half of 2019.

Creation of an access roundabout East to the Espinardo campus and extension of the branch of the A-30 motorway, with direct access to the UMU.

Equipment and improvement of the Pleiades Ciavys-Vitalys research complex, whose equipment will be completely finished in the year 2020.

Creation of a day care, teaching and research center in the Lorca campus, oriented to study and intergenerational integration.

In another vein, the Governing Council has approved to request the ANECA authorization for the implementation of the Master in Clinical Management, Quality and Safety of the Patient, as well as the joint programming of the Master of Advanced Mathematics and Master of Training of the Faculty.

Regarding teaching staff, an extension of the public employment offer for 2018 has been approved with three new positions of professor.

In addition, the summons for the appointment of professors emeritus for the 2019/2020 academic year has been approved.

On the other hand, the Governing Council has given the green light to 55 courses of the International University of the Sea, as well as to three collaboration agreements for the creation of new chairs: Terra Prospera of prevention of occupational hazards, Terra Prospero of gender and work , and Primafrío.

In addition, the call for FPU Predoctoral Contracts has been approved by the University of Murcia, which has some new features compared to previous years.

20 predoctoral contracts will be called, of which five will be for doctorates that are carried out in activities in collaboration with the companies.

In addition, it will be guaranteed that there is, at least, one for each branch of knowledge.

Academic excellence will be a very important aspect, since between 70 and 80 percent of the scale will be based on the average grade of the students.
