The restoration of heritage intervention will highlight the vestiges of the Roman road discovered in Monteagudo (08/02/2019)

The works developed in the Plaza de la Iglesia and the site of the old parish church revealed the existence of a small urban complex founded at the beginning of the 1st century. It has been one of the projects analyzed today at the extraordinary meeting held by the Government team in this district, along with a balance of the main actions carried out since 2015.

The City of Murcia is going to start a new intervention to recover the historical heritage of the municipality with the enhancement of the remains of a Roman road that were discovered in the vicinity of the visitor center of Monteagudo, and that are part of the Archaeological Park, 'The strength of the Rey Lobo', one of the great projects of archaeological, cultural, patrimonial and tourist relevance, in which Monteagudo constitutes a fundamental axis and its strengths.

In particular, it is about incorporating into the cultural heritage the vestiges discovered after the archaeological interventions that were carried out in the Plaza de la Iglesia and the site of the old parish church of the district, where a small urban complex of Roman period founded at the beginning of the first century. In addition, the works, which took place in the spring of 1999 and a second phase, in the autumn of 2001, also allowed to document in surveys several levels ascribed to the Iberian and late Bronze Age and early Bronze Age. final.

Those works, which were promoted and co-financed by the City of Murcia and the Ministry of Culture of the Autonomous Community, will soon have a second stage, since they are already working on the drafting of the project to recover these remains and incorporate them into the historical and cultural heritage Township.

This has been shown at the meeting of the government team held today in Monteagudo that has also served to evaluate some of the actions carried out in the district since 2015 and others planned in the short term.

Among these are five projects that will be executed in the surroundings of the visitor center, among which is the restoration of the Roman remains.

The total amount of these actions amounts to one million euros, and are completed with:

- Construction of sidewalks in C / Martínez Costa and others, with a budget of € 204,626, charged to the Extraordinary Investment Plan for Pedanías (PEIP) and subsidy from the Autonomous Community.

The project is drafted and financed, in the absence of the archaeological report prior to the tender.

- Paving of Church Street and Cuesta de San Cayetano Street, endowed with a budget of € 189,000 in the Pedalism Investment Plan (PIPE).

The project has already been drafted and financed.

It will be carried out after renovation works of the supply and sanitation network.

- Renovation of the supply and sanitation network in Calle Iglesia and San Cayetano, with a planned cost of € 214,073.

The project is drafted and financed, and the tender process has begun.

- Renewal of the supply and sanitation network in Martínez Costa street, budgeted at € 304,425.

It has financing and the project is in the drafting phase.

Children's games and gerontogimnasia

One of the most important works and that has been a real transformation in the center of the district for the use made of it by neighbors is the rehabilitation of the Garden in Avenida de la Constitución, where a fence and another security has been placed on the sidewalk of the National Highway promoted by the Department of Modernization of the Administration and Urban Development, which has also been responsible for the installation of children's games on the street Tirso De Molina, Las Lumbreras, and the Garden of the Cross, where they have also placed gerontogimnasia apparatuses, as in the Calle Pedro Díaz Cassou.

Infrastructure and public services

Among the works already carried out, investments made in the improvement of the lighting stand out, which has been confirmed with the installation of 62 new points of light, of which almost half, specifically 30, have provided more illumination of the Vereda de la Cueva , in addition to the 8 that constitute the ornamental lighting of the Castillejo.

The rest of the lamps were destined for the streets of Buenos Aires, Jara Carrillo, Miguel Angel Blanco, Primero de Mayo, Rodríguez de Almela, Ambrosio de Salazar, Mundo Nuevo crossing, Jardín de la Constitución and Carril Lucianos.

Also on the part of the Department of Infrastructure, Public Works and Services and, specifically, the Civil Engineering service in Pedanías, has carried out various actions in Monteagudo, among them, the rehabilitation of the San Cayetano hermitage environment, the execution of retaining wall of Tirso de Molina street, the stabilization of masonry wall of Church Street from Avda. Constitución and the renovation and execution of sidewalks in Camino de Casteliche.

In recent years, the City Council has carried out road maintenance works on Calle Andrés de Claramonte and Leopoldo Augusto Cueto, as well as the pedestrian pavement on Calle Federico García Lorca and Calle Almazara and the remodeling of the sidewalk at Camino Viejo de Monteagudo.

These projects have been completed with different asphalt renewal projects on several roads and lanes, the execution of fords and the maintenance of roads.
