'San Esteban, open air' This afternoon the exhibition is inaugurated with the photographs, plans and texts of the site's findings and the director of the excavations, Professor Jorge Eiroa, will give a lecture on the work carried out and (07/02/2019)

The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, together with the Councilor for Infrastructure, Public Works and Services, Rebeca Pérez, members of the Municipal Corporation, Rafael Álvarez-Ossorio, regional assistant director of El Corte Inglés, sponsor of the exhibition and representatives of the University of Murcia and the team of archaeologists of San Esteban attend this afternoon, at 6:00 p.m., at the conference 'New archaeological research at the San Esteban field', given by Professor Jorge Eiroa in the City Hall Exhibition Hall.

Afterwards, the exhibition 'San Esteban, open to the sky: the medieval suburb of Murcia' will be inaugurated.

The director of the excavations and head professor of the Department of Prehistory, Archeology, Ancient History, Medieval History and Historiographic Sciences and Techniques of the UMU, Jorge Eiroa, will explain the discoveries made so far in the site, since the excavations began. Phase Zero last November and they have brought out valuable findings in the 'funduk' (the lodging), the cemetery and the oratory.

It is a unique intervention in Europe, in a medieval urban area in the center of the city of Murcia of 900m2, in which a team of multidisciplinary specialists of the first level participate.

More than 800 Murcians have already seen them working 'in situ', thanks to the guided tours offered by the City Council to this medieval suburb of the 12th and 13th centuries.

The deposit, in view of drone

After the conference, the exhibition 'San Esteban a cielo abierto' will be inaugurated, sponsored by El Corte Inglés, which has 37 photographs, plans and texts of the discoveries made in the site in recent months, and whose work will continue until the spring.

Also included are two cabinets: one with the Cantiga 169 of Alfonso X El Sabio, dedicated to the Virgin of the Arrixaca, and the other with information on the suburb that bears his name, an old plane and a book where the neighbors are reflected. they obtained some of those lands in the distribution of the suburb.

The room will also have a screen on the ground with a video of the site in view of drone.

The City Council will make available to Murcia and visitors 5,000 explanatory brochures with information and photos of the exhibition, which can be visited in the Chamber of Corregidores on the first floor of La Glorieta for a month.

The sponsorship of El Corte Inglés in this exhibition responds to the policy of commitment that the company has with Murcia society by responsibly supporting different social, cultural, educational and sports activities.
