The neighborhoods and districts win 88 new gardens and Murcia exceeds 4 million m2 of green areas (05/02/2019)

From 2015 to date, 600,000 flowers, more than 37,000 shrubs and 11,000 new trees have been planted.

The City Council has built a total of 203 new playgrounds, created 69 spaces of gerontogimnasia and habilitated 46 areas of canine recreation.

The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, together with the Councilor for Modernization of Administration and Urban Development, José Guillén, today offered the balance relating to the green areas of Murcia, which exceed 4 million m2 in the whole municipality, with 88 new parks and gardens open in neighborhoods and districts from 2015 to date.

In the last three and a half years these more than 3,000 green spaces for family leisure have increased by 300,000 m2, from 3.74 to 4.05 million m2.

They have planted nearly 600,000 flowering plants, more than 37,000 shrubs and 11,000 new trees, which has led to the withdrawal of more than 8,000 tons of CO2 from the atmosphere.

In addition, the City has built a total of 203 new playgrounds (with approximately 1,000 games and 27 pergolas and shadow systems), created 69 new areas of gerontogimnasia (with 347 devices) and enabled 46 areas of canine recreation.

"The green areas, our parks and gardens, are the lungs of our municipality, but also your heart, because in them we enjoy unique moments with our loved ones: from teaching our daughter to ride a bike to the first ride with our grandchildren, "said José Ballesta.

More than 157,000 incidents resolved

In the aforementioned period, the approximately 200 workers and workers of the Municipal Park and Garden Service have attended a total of 157,000 incidents, with an average of more than 40,000 repairs per year.

"The parks are public spaces that register, daily, a greater influx of Murcian families, who demand that they be in perfect condition," said the mayor.

Likewise, a total of 360,000 trees (with a 128,000 platform) have been checked and pruned, 84,000,000 m2 of grass have been mowed (equivalent to 8,400 soccer fields) and more than 1,300,0000 kilos of fruit have been collected.
