Change Murcia proposes to expand the powers of the SEIS in the inspection of fire protection systems (02/02/2019)

The spokesman of the municipal group of Cambiemos Murcia, Nacho Tornel, has proposed today to the City Council to define and extend the powers of the Fire and Rescue Extinction Service (SEIS) in relation to the inspection of fire protection systems, such as the hydrants and the dry columns installed in the buildings to guarantee the water supply.

The draft of the Fire Ordinance approved in the previous Plenary contemplates that in the case of dry columns-a conduction that starts from the façade of the buildings, runs through the stairwell and is provided with outlets on the floors -, its review will be at the request of the administrator or the owner or owners of the private farms.

For Tornel, "the logical thing" would be that instead of leaving it at the expense of individuals, the Consistory, through the SIX, will be in charge of planning the operation tests of the fire protection systems, in order to "provide the maximum security "and guarantee the correct functioning of them.

In addition, the text of said ordinance states that firefighters can perform "on-the-job inspections" at the facilities, but does not specify what these actions should consist of, and that the maintenance service of the hydrant and dry columns systems be the exploiting company of the water network of the municipality, "as long as it is recognized" for this function.

In this sense, Tornel has asked the City Council that EMUASA acquires the status of "recognized company", if it does not already have it, and that it assumes the service as its own to prevent its outsourcing "based on a new subcontractor".

A Murcia Prevention and Safety Plan

The councilor of municipal training has also appealed to the need to implement a Fire Prevention and Safety Plan for Murcia, because until now, as in the Ordinance itself is recognized, does not exist.

To this, has joined the criticism of the "delay" with which the government team has prepared the Ordinance, which is the result of the Royal Decree of fire protection facilities, approved by the State 19 months ago, specifically on 22 May 2017
