More than 550 primary school pupils of the municipality work in solidarity and human rights through theater (29/01/2019)

The Councilor for Social Rights and Development Cooperation, Conchita Ruiz, visits the Montepinar del Esparragal school to learn about the Awareness and Education for Development program carried out by the Jesús Abandonado Foundation and in which more than 550 students participate.

This program, funded by the City of Murcia, is being taught in 20 schools in the municipality, totaling 28 sessions.

The activity "Kamishibai" consists in the narration of a story to elementary school students through illustrations placed on a miniature stage, which change according to the narration.

"The objective is to educate the children of the municipality in values so that

In addition to the curricular subjects that they develop in the classroom, they can also deepen their reading, develop their imagination and reflect on different behaviors so that they can identify what is right and moral, "stressed Conchita Ruiz.

Specifically, the story that has been developed aims to broaden the perspective within the framework of international cooperation, working on the values of solidarity, justice, human rights and co-responsibility.

After the story, impressions, emotions and experiences are shared with the children through questions.

The topic is also enriched by talking about the third world, poverty, aid and solidarity.

Once the awareness-raising activity has been carried out in the classroom, the Fundación Jesús Abandonado team places different teaching materials at the disposal of the teachers, so that they can reinforce and extend the values worked on in the session in the classroom.

The Murcia City Council is also collaborating in other activities, reaching 52 educational centers, reaching 67 sessions and reaching more than 1,300 students.

Among the activities that are being carried out include children, from 4 to 5 years, the puppet theater, from 6 to 12 years, the game of mate and cooperative play across the river and high school, high school and FP, Game Room and learning and service activities.

In the call for grants last year 62,500 euros were allocated to awareness projects, granting 12,285 euros for Jesus Abandoned.

"In this way, we are committed to publicizing and raising awareness of the world's poverty and inequality, as well as reflecting on its causes and consequences." A specialized team works to spread the values of the 2030 challenge such as solidarity, equity , social justice, equality between gender, culture of peace and cultural diversity, among others "has highlighted Conchita Ruiz.
