The University of Murcia has hosted this month the first annual general assembly of the European project 'PoshBee: pan-European evaluation, monitoring and mitigation of stress factors in the health of bees', which has brought together more than 70 representatives from 12 European countries.
'PoshBee' is a consortium of academics, NGOs, government organizations and industry that aims to create the best possible tools to maintain healthy bee populations, promote sustainable beekeeping and ensure pollination in Europe.
The project, which lasts from June 2018 to June 2023, aims to determine how agrochemicals affect the health of bees, in order to develop protection policies for these insects.
With a grant of 9 million euros, the research consortium 'PoshBee' will study honey bees, bumble bees and solitary bees, which face many threats in Europe and around the world, which is why they are endangered species .
Over the course of the meeting, the participants have developed the lines of research that will be implemented during 2019. For the first time, this year the study will incorporate the knowledge and experience of local beekeeping, farmers' organizations and academic researchers. to provide the first comprehensive pan-European evaluation of the danger of exposure of bees to chemical products.
This project has received funding from the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation program under grant agreement no. 773921.
