The City Council recovers over 2 million m2 of natural landscape along with five environmental associations (17/01/2019)

Planting trees and recovering the traditional landscape of environments such as the Segura River, from La Contraparada to Beniel, or natural areas of 'El Valle and Sierras de Altaona and Escalona' are some of the actions that will take place Acude, Anse, Morus Alba , Adesga and Fundación Desarrollo Sostenible.

From 2015 to the date the City Council has planted 11,000 new trees, which has meant the removal of more than 8,000 tons of CO2 from the atmosphere.

The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, accompanied by the councilor of Urbanism, Environment, Water and Garden, Antonio Navarro, this morning has signed the renewal of various agreements with five Murcia associations of environmental nature with which they recover around 2.149. 063 square meters of municipal public properties, "environments of high environmental value in which priority is given to the protection of biodiversity, with the planting of native species and environmental awareness actions," said the mayor.

Planting trees and recovering the traditional landscape of natural environments such as the Segura River, from La Contraparada to Beniel or natural areas of 'El Valle and Sierras de Altaona and Escalona' are, together with training and environmental awareness actions, some of the projects that will carry out Acude, Anse, Morus Alba, Adesga and Sustainable Development Foundation.

José Ballesta said that "these associations are the best partners in these initiatives with high ecological, social and landscape profitability" and added that "from 2015 to date the City has planted 11,000 new trees, which has led to the withdrawal of more than 8,000 tons of CO2 from the atmosphere, within strategic projects such as the Plan de Acción de la Huerta or 'Murcia Río' ".

The event was attended by Pilar Sánchez, president of Acude, the Association for the custody of the territory and sustainable development;

Jorge Sánchez, Anse Project Technician, the Association of Naturalists of the Southeast;

José Ambrosio Álvarez, president of Morus Alba;

Antonio Soler Valcárcel, responsible of Projects of Adesga, the Association of neighbors for the sustainable development of the Garruchal;

and Emilio Ballester, president of Fundación Desarrollo Sostenible.

These five associations will receive a global municipal subsidy of 65,000 euros to continue with the various actions of recovery and environmental value of these municipal public properties, in addition to developing awareness actions training and environmental education.

Association for the custody of the territory and sustainable development

The Association for the Custody of the Territory and Sustainable Development-ACUDE develops its work in the public estate 'La Tercia' in the district of Gea and Truyols and in the public estate 'Los Santiagos', located in the vicinity of Cabezo de la Plata .

In the first of these spaces, ACUDE will continue to perform various tasks such as replenishment of hedges, planting plots with rainfed cereals, which will benefit species such as the mountain rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus), the Red Partridge (Alectorís rufa), the hare (Lepus capensis), the European Tortola (Streptopelia turtuí) or the Torcaz pigeon (Columba palumbus), among others;

installation of shelter boxes for bats;

recovery of abandoned terraces with carob plantation;

correction of erosive processes and removal of agricultural plastic waste.

At Finca Los Santiagos (in the surroundings of 'El Valle and Sierras de Altaona and Escalona') work will be done on the fixation of soils, creating a spartal terraced terraces to stop soil losses and fix slopes.

The esparto creates among its stems and leaves a very unique micro habitat that benefits many species of arthropods and small vertebrates, as well as being an ideal space for species such as the Red Partridge to build their nests.

In addition, in both areas, we will continue to identify, through appropriate signage, flora species from public farms so that visitors can know the plants that inhabit them;

a wild fauna phototraping will be carried out to monitor the vertebrates and a list of flora and fauna will be created that will allow to know and value the biodiversity of the natural spaces.

Naturalists Association of Southeast

The Association of Naturalists of the Southeast (ANSE) will maintain its project of environmental recovery of the river corridor.

Thus, work will be carried out on the maintenance of the restorations already made, the meander of the meander will be maintained and extended near Puebla de Soto, and the invasive species will be eliminated and riparian forest will be planted.

Likewise, a banding station will be established in the Contraparada, exotic invasive turtles will be removed, otters will be surveyed and shelter boxes will be placed for bats.

Other actions included in the organization of four plantations with volunteering, in the production of plant in the municipal nursery and in the implementation of a river custody agreement for the Murcia-Contraparada river corridor and Beniel-Murcia-Orihuela meander.

Morus Alba

The agreement with Morus Alba consists of the reforestation of area 27 next to the Corvera electric station.

To do this, it will be necessary to continue with earthmoving works for the preparation of ditches in the new areas to be reforested and planting seedlings with their protection materials and survival risks.

Neighborhood Association for the Sustainable Development of the Garruchal

The Neighborhood Association for the Sustainable Development of the Garruchal (Adesga) carries out its work in the Los Ginovinos Farm and in the Los Porches Farm in Cañadas de San Pedro, both located in the surroundings of 'El Valle and Sierras de Altaona and Escalona').

The agreement will allow the continuation of the actions in the Los Ginovinos farm for the maintenance of the olive grove, focused on the elimination of the total of the basal shoots, the removal of pruning and firewood residues from the farm and the arrangement of plastic protections against rodents. find damaged.

In addition, actions such as tilling the farm, sowing cereals for the fauna of the area, cleaning rubbish and hydraulic infrastructures of the farms, such as the low water channel and intermediate boxes that are directed to the water pool or the cleaning of surface algae.

On the other hand, in the farm of 'The Porches' will also carry out actions of maintenance of the olive grove, tillage and sowing of cereals that serves as food and shelter for the fauna of the area.

In addition, the trajillado of the main access road to the farm will be made to facilitate access to it.

Sustainable Development Foundation

The Sustainable Development Foundation will maintain various projects of advice, outreach, training, education and information on sustainability as the program of activities at the Center Fuenteambiental and Solar Energy of Columbares in which participants can learn about different areas such as renewable energy and climate change;

biodiversity, the fight against erosion and nursery and the ecological production of food.

In addition, training and advisory actions will be carried out for the creation and maintenance of organic or school gardens, and the "My school saves with energy" initiative will be revitalized, thanks to which participating schools have managed to reduce their minimum of 10%. energy consumption.
