Now Murcia requires Ballesta housing solutions for the imminent evictions planned in the municipality (14/01/2019)

- The Plenary Session of the City Council last September approved a motion by Murcia regarding housing in the municipality in which it was established, among other agreements, that "in the face of an emergency due to increased rent evictions, a housing solution is sought even temporarily "

- That same motion established that the municipal groups held a meeting to agree on the Housing Plan "to demand from the Autonomous Community and the central Government".

"A meeting," says Alzamora, "which, in a further demonstration of the Ballesta Government's disinterest in social housing, has not been maintained for three and a half months"

NOW MURCIA requires the municipal government of the PP to offer housing solutions to families in the municipality with children who will be affected by evictions in the coming weeks, as alerted by the PAH (Platform of People Affected by the Mortgage).

The councilman Miguel Angel Alzamora stresses that the Plenary Session of the City Council approved last September a motion by Ahora Murcia on housing in the municipality in which it was established, among other agreements, that "in the face of an emergency due to increased rent evictions , look for a housing solution even temporarily ".

Alzamora denounces that despite this agreement, 4 evictions to families with minors are scheduled in the municipality "without being offered any housing solution".

"It is alarming the lack of sensitivity and commitment of the municipal and autonomous governments of the PP with the problem of housing," says the mayor.

"Not only do they lack a housing policy, in spite of the enormous existing needs and the serious situation we live in, but they also do not enforce the laws and the measures approved in the matter of housing."

In this sense, Alzamora recalls that it is still pending application, due to the lack of interest of the PP, the Regional Housing Law, which contains measures to stop the evictions, while in the City of Murcia "the Popular Party and Citizens are blocking the largest part of the proposals that the opposition, and especially now Murcia, make in terms of social housing.

The councilor stressed that in the municipality "the number of evictions continues to rise, especially for rent, and yet we are the only one of the large Spanish cities without a municipal housing plan, in addition to that we have a municipal park of obsolete housing and degraded, and a demand for social housing without satisfying more than a thousand families It is time for the municipal government of the PP to promote and execute once a municipal housing policy according to the needs of the families of the municipality.

Alzamora emphasizes that the evictions entail that these families "violate their right to housing and their right to the city", while these evictions violate the fundamental rights of minors, "as they affect their education and assistance to the school, cause health problems, etc. "

As the councilor recalls, the other agreements included in the Murcia Now motion passed last September were "for the City Council to provide human and budgetary resources to the Housing Service", thus guaranteeing its proper functioning, and so that the groups Municipalities meet to agree on the Housing Plan "to demand from the Autonomous Community and the central Government".

"A meeting," says Alzamora, "which, in a further demonstration of the Ballesta Government's lack of interest in social housing, has not been maintained for three and a half months."
