A battery of actions to improve the movements of the thousand companies that reside in the Western Industrial Estate (10/01/2019)

The comprehensive renovation of the lighting reduces the emission of CO2 into the atmosphere by 141 tons and increases the safety of both pedestrians and vehicles that continuously enter and leave this logistic district in which 12,000 people work.

The improvement actions of the asphalting of different streets that the City Council is carrying out in this environment of high traffic intensity of heavy vehicles also benefit the mobility.

The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, together with the Councilor for Infrastructure, Public Works and Services, Rebeca Pérez, and the Councilor for Traffic, Security and Citizen Protection, Lola Sánchez, and the Councilor for Economic Promotion, Culture and European Programs, Jesús Pacheco, today visited the Western Industrial Estate, a logistics and business district in which about 1,000 companies employ 12,000 workers, and where the City is developing a battery of actions aimed at improving mobility and security throughout the environment.

Specifically, the City Council has renewed the lighting of the streets of this industrial city, which extends over three million square meters, and in which companies carry out their activity in many different sectors (import, food processing processes, retail stores, etc.).

"With this action, the annual expenditure on electricity and the emission of CO2 to the atmosphere have been reduced by 63% by 141 tons," said José Ballesta.

The previous electrical installation was 40 years old and has been replaced by 390 luminaires with LED technology, which provide greater safety and visibility in the displacements, both for pedestrians and for vehicles that enter and leave the facilities of the industrial enclave continuously. of saving and reducing pollution.

The budget of the work, which has been executed by Ferrovial Services, has been of 154.604 euros.

The improvement actions of the asphalting of different streets that the City Council is carrying out also benefit the mobility.

Three vials have already been paved and the next action, which is in the bidding phase, will involve the complete renovation of the road on Juan de la Cierva Street, on the stretch of the main avenue to the Calle Mayor Clemente García.

"This will favor a safer circulation in this environment of high intensity of traffic, especially heavy vehicles," said the mayor, who added that "are also going to renew pedestrian crossings and existing signaling" .

The amount of this action, also coordinated by the Department of Infrastructure, Public Works and Services, is 50,222 euros.

Its term of execution is two months.

For its part, from the Department of Traffic and Public Safety has carried out the renovation and improvement of vertical signage in the streets of the Polygon and is going to start the repainting of horizontal signage.

The amount of these actions amounts to 11,000 euros.
