Citizens demand the immediate revision of the air pollution protocol of the local government due to inefficiency (09/01/2019)

Carlos Peñafiel: "The PP still does not adopt any kind of effective measure beyond a few simple recommendations, despite the fact that the municipality of Murcia has been on alert for weeks"

The mayor of Citizens Carlos Peñafiel has demanded to the local government an immediate revision of the protocol of action before episodes of atmospheric contamination because "after days of alert the parameters of some pollutants continue being elevated in spite of the application of the mentioned protocol".

Technicians from CARM, DGT and AEMET

For the orange training, the coordination of the operation is largely improvable and the group of managers appointed for this purpose should be extended to at least CARM technicians (do not forget that the City does not have its own measuring stations or model predictive of air quality);

to technicians from the General Directorate of Traffic (since the proposed traffic restrictions would affect, if carried out, the State highway network);

and AEMET technicians to help predict weather conditions.

According to the mayor of Citizens, "another issue that demonstrates the lack of responsibility and inconsistency of the local government is that while they recommended avoiding outdoor physical activity, thousands of Murcia ran the traditional race of San Silvestre for the city center".

"This is like pretending to run a marathon and handing out packets of tobacco to runners."

Renovation and expansion

From the orange training, they are committed to renewing and expanding the network of air quality monitoring stations and that in the Murcia Smart City project, in the hundreds of parameters to be monitored, those related to atmospheric pollution and the health of the Murcia to be able to have a predictive model and anticipate these episodes.

Sustainable mobility plan

"We are talking about a public health issue where it is so important to make the population aware of how to have accurate information to adopt the appropriate measures," said Peñafiel, who concluded that "the solution continues to be the adoption of a true and ambitious sustainable mobility plan for the metropolitan area of Murcia, as we have been defending since we arrived at the Consistory ".
