A thousand professionals have worked to achieve a record Christmas in Murcia (09/01/2019)

Tourism has shot up 10.78% during the first weekend of this 2019, with peaks of up to 87% in hotel occupancy on New Year's Eve.

380,000 people have been counted in the Big Tree.

Sales in the Christmas Market of La Glorieta have grown by 22%.

The mayor thanked "the dedication, work and effort of these professionals who have spent their time to ensure the safety, welfare, leisure and image of the municipality of Murcia" during the past holidays.

A total of 938 professionals have contributed to Murcia has lived a record Christmas, in which hotel occupancy has increased to 10.78% over last year.

The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, and members of the Municipal Corporation have celebrated this morning a meeting in which they have thanked their work to the different groups of people who have worked during the past holidays.

"From security, in charge of the more than 300 policemen who have been part of the Special Christmas Plan, the 57 firemen and the 100 volunteers of Civil Protection;

even the most social part, such as the professionals of the Mobile Emergency Service and Social Care (SEMAS) who have been, at street level, attending to the most vulnerable people and offering them shelter and shelter;

going through the cleaning service, with more than 220 active workers;

the fifty or so Electromur professionals;

the team of 42 people of the Big Tree (between security, organization, monitors and technical service);

or the 210 operators of Parks and Gardens, "said José Ballesta.

The mayor said that "Murcia is a great city and that task of collective transformation we are called all and all, without any distinction.

It is an exciting task, a collective process, each one in the field that corresponds to it, because none of us is worth more than all of us together.

Also, the first mayor thanked "the delivery, work and effort of professionals who have spent their time to ensure the safety, welfare, leisure and image of the municipality of Murcia," and that have made this year possible reach record figures in hotel occupancy and assistance to more than 500 public events in the city and districts, driven by the Celebration Service of the Department of Economic Promotion, Culture and European Programs, directed by Jesús Pacheco.

Hotels beat occupancy records on weekends

During the first weekend of the week of 2019 (days 4 and 5) there was a 10.78% more occupancy than in the same period last year.

New Year's Eve has broken records of occupation, with 87'31%.

In this sense, Jesus Pacheco said that "every weekend of Christmas have achieved a significant increase over previous years, reaching historical figures in this period."

In addition, occupancy in the 4-star hotels has increased by 9% -the highest category in the city of Murcia-, from December 21 to January 6.

The communities that have visited our city the most have been, in this order, Valencia, Madrid and Andalusia.

By nationality they have been United Kingdom, France and Germany.

Big Tree: 380,000 attendees and 30,000 children in the workshops

Actions in the Big Tree: 383 actions and 380,000 attendees.

Workshops carried out: 258 and 30,000 participants.

Shows: 125, for which 200,000 people have passed.

Toys collected for the most vulnerable Murcian children: 3,250.

Events with greater attendance: Horseback riding and concerts in Belluga

Retes parade: 70,000 people.

Arrival of Santa Claus: 3,000 people.

Concerts 'Brinde con nosotros' and 'Villancicos Belluga': more than 8,000.

Fire show at the Molinos del Río: 4,500 people.

'Ice Revolution' ice skating show: 7,000 people.

Christmas Market of Glorieta: 70,000 visitors

Concerts: 27 musical performances with 133 young people offered 35 hours of music of all styles (folk, pop, rock, choral, indie and electronic music).

Market: 45 young creators, designers and artisans, under 35 and without physical point of sale.

This year they have increased sales compared to last year by 22%.

Foods trucks: They have sold more than 2,000 hamburgers.

More than 2,000 euros have been raised with the Solidarity Christmas beer of Estrella de Levante.

The market has had more than 70,000 visitors throughout 360 hours.

Lili's children's workshop: between 4,000 and 6,000 children and adults.

Spectators in theaters: 12,432

Romea Theater: Shows called 'Christmas with Cajamurcia Foundation', from December 22, 2018 to January 2, 2019: 'The lady and the vagabond, the musical' - 14 performances - 7688 spectators.

'Mouse Perez and the enigma of time' - 7 passes, with an occupation of 3,944 spectators.

Teatro Circo: Concert of the Youth Orchestra of Murcia City with the Orfeón Fernández Caballero, with an absolute number of 800 seats.
