The artist Jean Carlos Puerto presents his new work called 'Threshold / Threshold' at the Galería Léucade, on Friday, January 11, an exhibition where each of the pieces (twelve oil paintings and five drawings) speculates on the relationship between the objects, the possibilities and their accesses, desire as a motor, rites of passage and sensuality as poetic.
Commissioned by Ricardo Recuero, the formal and aesthetic research area of ​​this project starts, on the one hand, from the tributaries adjacent to the new current of thought called "Speculative Realism", of which Graham Harman is one of its most important representatives, and, on the other hand, of the idea of ​​"Threshold".
From an overcoming of the pictorial realism understood from the "mimesis", aesthetics is considered as a tool to create meanings.
The artistic practice is nothing but a poetic action that seeks to investigate the constitutive relations of reality, not exclusively in interaction with the subject.
Starting from Object Oriented Ontology (OOO) by Harman, painting would be the space of speculation in which the body, from a phenomenological conception of it, seems above all to be "an object".
The threshold as a place of passage (physical-spiritual), as access point, limit, edge, end and beginning, alluding to the work of Anne Cauquelin, can be an effective tool to cultivate the passage of the real to the possible but also of the possible to the real and the painting, a performative act capable of transforming those realities.
Artistic Biography
Jean Carlos Puerto (Caracas - 1981) is an artist with an impeccable career, with almost twenty awards and mentions and whose work is in both private and institutional collections and present at National (Art Madrid) or International (Salon International d'Art Contemporain - Paris) and projects such as Sexposer in Switzerland or Instinct Berlin.
