The PSOE will insist in the Plenary to end the insecurity in the 24 kilometers of the bike path of the river that do not pass through the city (08/01/2019)

The Municipal Socialist Group in the City of Murcia will take to the Plenary on the 31st of this month of January a motion asking that the bike lane be provided with safety, starting from the city, it arrives on the one hand from La Contraparada and on the other at Beniel .

"It is a place where many people go for a walk or practice sports running or cycling and we know that complaints have been filed by those who have been assaulted in an unlit space and also by passers-by who have been attacked by dogs that go loose ", explains the PSOE mayor Juan Vicente Larrosa, who claims" vigilance "in a very popular route both on weekends and daily.

Larrosa recalls that the Councilor for Sports, Felipe Coello, let slip the possibility of attending the call for subsidies for healthy roads proposed by the Autonomous Community and that could have provided lighting to this journey of 24 linear kilometers -12 Malecón to La Contraparada and 12 others from La Fica to Beniel.

"We have been without public lighting in the bike lane for years, which makes this route unsafe when it gets dark, so it becomes an underutilized space when the Popular Party and the mayor, José Ballesta, fill their mouths talking about the project Murcia River: It seems that all their efforts are focused on putting value on the Segura riverbank for the use of Murcia and Murcia, but only on the urban stretch ", says Larrosa, who gives a piece of information as an example.

"The City Council provides 17,400 watts of lighting around the river as it passes through the city, between the light of the road and the ornamental bridges, when the rest of the route remains in darkness," he says.

In November 2016 the PSOE already denounced that the PP was hiding in vandalism to argue the lack of street lamps in this area.

"It is an absolute incongruity that Mr. Ballesta uses the pretext of wire thefts to eliminate the lighting of the river bike path," Larrosa said then.

More than two years later the situation remains the same.

This problem is compounded by the poor condition of the pavement, with a curb that separates the bike path from the dirt road used for walking and running that has caused a large number of falls, as reported by cyclists who use this route.

For all this, the Municipal Socialist Group will raise in the Plenary that will close this month of January a motion demanding that "once and for all" address the deficiencies of a public space that today is uncomfortable and insecure.
