The Clinical Veterinary Foundation of the University of Murcia (Fuveum), which manages the University of Murcia Veterinary Hospital, will collaborate in the castration of companion animals, based on a collaboration agreement signed with the Federation of Animal Defense Associations of the Region of Murcia (Darmur).

Both organizations will work in a coordinated way to promote the castration of dogs and cats of protectors attached to Darmur, stopping the overpopulation in 11 municipalities of the Region: Abarán, Alcantarilla, Alhama de Murcia, Bullas, Caravaca de la Cruz, Cieza, Las Torres de Cotillas, Lorca, Murcia, San Javier and Yecla.

The agreement also contemplates the realization of special discounts in veterinary consultations, as well as in certain cases that require interventions or surgeries.

At the same time, staff of the University Veterinary Hospital will participate in talks in Primary and Secondary education centers of the Autonomous Community with the aim of promoting responsible pet ownership, adoption and, in passing, bring the profession of clinical veterinarian to Murcia schoolchildren .

Both entities emphasized that at Christmas time Murcia families are more susceptible to satisfy the desire to have a pet.

Therefore, "encourage all year to reflect on the changes that involves the possession of a dog, a cat or an exotic animal at home, as it implies a change in lifestyle."

In addition, they recalled that "sometimes our society considers a pet as a gift, regardless of whether the recipient is willing to really take on that responsibility," they explained.

Finally, this agreement will also allow the donation of belts, beds, toys and other belongings by pet owners through the installation of a solidarity closet that will be located in the waiting room of this hospital located in the Espinardo Campus.

With a trajectory of more than 20 years, the University of Murcia Veterinary Hospital stands out for being the first center of reference in veterinary specialties of the Region of Murcia, open 365 days a year for 24 hours.

Among its objectives is to continue to improve the teaching and research clinical activity, as well as to offer healthcare excellence to the owners of dogs, cats, exotic animals and equines, mainly.
