The Socialist candidate for the Mayor of Murcia, which shows its concern for the quality of air in the city, proposes a decalogue of measures to combat this problem that allows the PP and is largely motivated by the gases emitted by vehicles motor and that affect health
Yesterday, January 3, air was again breathed in the municipality of Murcia with values, in some pollutants, above the maximum admissible limits for our health.
Specifically, the values ​​of the particles suspended in the air of small size, called PM10 and that come mainly from the gases of motor vehicles, exceeded the maximum value admitted, which is 50 micrograms per cubic meter, in six of the last ten days.
Therefore, it is not only a problem of occasional contamination by the use of the private vehicle, but it becomes even more serious when it persists for a long time.
Faced with a problem of this importance, which leads to health problems in Murcia and Murcia breathing a polluted air, we find a bad mayor of Murcia who has no answer to the causes of it or measures on the effects it causes in the population.
"Unlike what Mr. Ballesta does, since the PSOE we are not satisfied with this contamination, we can not accept that the only solution proposed by the Popular Party is to wait for the weather to change and dissolve the pollution better", explained José Antonio Serrano in the press conference he has offered today at the bus stop of the Glorieta de España in the company of the councilors of the Municipal Socialist Group Enrique Ayuso and Juan Vicente Larrosa.
"Because what shows this contamination that we suffer is not only that the PP has done nothing to tackle the cause of pollution with an improvement of public transport in Murcia, as we have so often demanded and denounced. Popular for minimizing the effects of this polluted air as it is limited to waiting for the nights to stop being so cold and, meanwhile, that the neighbors of Murcia go less to the street, "he added.
From the Socialist Party proposed measures to act in the medium term in order to get a municipality with a cleaner air and also in the short term to prevent this pollution that is suffering these days cause major health problems.
In this way, the PSOE claims to Ballesta to modify the protocol of action before the cases of contamination, which incidentally was approved without seeking neither the political consensus nor the advice of the experts, to include, as a measure in the days in those who activate this level of alert that we are suffering these dates, that public transport in Murcia can be used for free.
"We know that it is a measure that has an economic cost, but we must also be aware of the cost to health, and also economic, which has nothing to do as the Popular Party prefers," Serrano has continued.
From the Socialist Party are also proposed in the medium term several measures to be incorporated into a plan to reduce air pollution in Murcia.
They are the following:
- Meet the demands of so many districts of Murcia to have an updated bus network, with more lines and better frequencies that allow the bus to be an attractive option for mobility in the municipality.
- Create a unique public transport card that unifies the tariffs of all the bus systems -municipal and autonomic- and of the tram.
It is not admissible that the residents of the districts of Murcia are discriminated against with an extra cost for using the bus.
- Enable lanes of preference for public transport that allow it to move at a more appropriate speed, without traffic jams and with better quality in the urban areas of the municipality.
- Mark the temporary goal of 2030 for the renewal of public buses to ensure that they are of category ZERO and ECO and do not generate any polluting gas in their daily activity.
- Expand sidewalks and create more bike lanes to facilitate and promote the safe movement of pedestrians and cyclists as forms of sustainable displacement.
- Give pedestrians the highest priority, with interventions in the public space to facilitate pedestrian mobility in the neighborhoods, with better environments for the pedestrian, with the creation of pedestrian networks and safe roads, as well as a plan for the elimination of barriers architectural and obstacles.
- Expand the bicycle rental system to the neighborhoods and districts of Murcia to reach all areas of the municipality with more banks of bicycles and more units.
- Create in Murcia a network of dissuasive car parks, attended and safe, well connected with public transport in all entrances and exits of the urban area of ​​Murcia.
- Approve incentives for the fleet of taxis and transport of low emission goods that operates in the urban area of ​​Murcia.
- Encourage public work centers to achieve sustainable labor mobility for their workers.
"In short, carry out what the Popular Party has not done in these last 24 years in Murcia and put an end to the indolence of Mr. Ballesta and his government team, which only expects time alone to resolve the incompetence of his management in this subject of so much importance ", has concluded the candidate of the PSOE to the Mayorship of the capital of the Region.
