The University of Murcia signs a collaboration agreement with the Central South University of Changsa (China) (30/10/2018)

The delegation of the University of Murcia (UMU) that since last week visits universities and research centers in China, has established important ties with Central South University of Changsa (CSU), a university located in Hunan province that has recently been recognized with one of the highest classifications within the Chinese university system.

Central South University and the University of Murcia maintain a close relationship thanks to projects developed by Professor Pablo Artal and the Optical Laboratory he directs.

These previous contacts have favored the Murcia delegation, led by the rector, José Luján, initialed this Monday with the CSU a Memorandum of Understanding that will increase the previous relations between the two institutions in different areas.

In the conversations held, the CSU has been interested in the work developed at the University of Murcia in the Faculties of Computer Science, Chemistry, Medicine and Mathematics.

In addition, the foundations have also been laid for collaboration between the University of Murcia and the School of Foreing Languages ​​of the CSU with the aim of enriching the language services of both institutions.

In particular, a collaboration agreement has been initiated on issues of Spanish as a foreign language and the teaching of the Chinese language with SIDI.

Contacts with universities in Shanghai

Continuing with the institutional contacts, on Tuesday the UMU delegation visited two faculties of the Jiao-Tong University, one of the most prestigious universities in the country, and the Shanghai Normal University, where as a curiosity, half of the teaching staff has been trained of primary and secondary schools in the Shanghai metropolitan area.

In Jiao-Tong, meetings have been held with the Koguan School of Law (Law) and the Antai College of Economics and Management (Economics and Management).

The representatives of the University of Murcia have been received by their respective deans and vice-deans as well as those responsible for International Relations.

There has been an opportunity to present first-hand the academic and research offer and the possibilities of international collaboration of the university.

In the same way and with the same objective, collaboration possibilities have been discussed in relation to double degrees and language learning with the Vice Rector for International Relations and the directory of the International Office of Shanghai Normal University.

During the stay in Shanghai, they will also visit the universities Ming Hua, considered one of the best Chinese universities, and the Fudan University to present the UMU and explore possibilities for collaboration.

The University of Murcia began its official trip last Wednesday and its first act in the Asian country was at the Normal University of Hunan, which celebrates its 80th anniversary and invited Luján to give a speech at the opening ceremony of the commemoration.

The UMU is one of the best international partners of this university and both institutions have a long tradition of cooperation.

During this visit, progress was made in actions that promote the mobility of students and teachers, as well as exchanges of Spanish readers.

Also in the city of Changsa, in Hunan, the delegation of the UMU participated in the Chinese-Foreign University Presidents Forum (Forum of Rectors of Foreign Universities), where the rector presented the University of Murcia to the attendees.

In total, the delegation of the University of Murcia will visit up to ten universities in Shanghai, Jian and Beijing with which relations are maintained and signature of specific agreements will be carried out.
