Murcia City Council celebrates Climathon tomorrow for the third consecutive year (25/10/2018)

The City of Murcia participates tomorrow for the third consecutive year in the 'Climathon 2018', the largest event against climate change worldwide that is celebrated simultaneously in several countries.

The day will begin at 9.30 am with the round table consisting of the councilor for Urban Planning, Environment, Water and Garden, Antonio Navarro, Consolation Rosauro Meseguer, Director General of Natural Environment of the Autonomous Community of Murcia and Juan Pedro Montavez Gomez , Chair of Water and Sustainability of the University of Murcia.

In addition, the Adaptation to Climate Change Strategy of the Municipality of Murcia and the study of the perception of Climate Change in the Murcian society will be presented.

It will also end with the round table on good local practices on adaptation to climate change, with interventions on new challenges of Public Health and projects of other municipalities in Spain such as Madrid, Alicante or Elche.

This year, the international marathon of ideas that aims to respond to the challenge of building a carbon-free economy.

Topics such as measures to increase coolness areas in the city, minimize the risk of flooding, water scarcity or how to deal with new public health challenges such as the tiger mosquito will be addressed.

On this occasion, the challenge posed by the Climathon is to disseminate and transmit to Murcia the measures that need to be put in place to face the impacts derived from climate change.

Among them, for example, measures to increase the freshness zones in the city, minimize the risk of floods and water shortages, prepare society through training and awareness programs, face new public health challenges such as the tiger mosquito vector of infectious diseases, allergies and prevention / warning against extreme weather events, the value of the garden and decarbonization of the city, acting on mobility, reducing energy consumption and increasing the use of renewable energy.
