The City Council joins the celebration of the International Day of the United Nations (23/10/2018)

The City of Murcia joins the celebration of the International Day of the United Nations, on October 24, with the presence of the flag of this institution in La Glorieta.

The institution was created by the signing of the United Nations Charter in June 1945 by representatives of 50 countries.

The United Nations Charter has been signed by 193 countries

The Charter of the United Nations was preceded by several conferences in order to maintain peace and international security.

So previously the Declarations of the Palace of St. James (1941), Letter of the Atlantic (1941), Declaration of the United Nations (1942), Declarations of Moscow and Teheran (1943), Conference of Dumbarton Oaks and Yalta ( 1944-1945) and finally the San Francisco Conference (1945).

The United Nations is also created to collaborate among countries, solving international problems of an economic, social, cultural and humanitarian nature.

It also aims to reaffirm the faith in the fundamental rights of people (in the dignity and worth of the human person, in the equal rights of men and women and of large and small nations), creating conditions for the maintenance of justice and respect for obligations arising from international treaties.

The UN Charter was signed by 50 countries, however throughout history new countries have been united until 193 at present, Spain joined in 1955.

The main organs of the UN are the General Assembly, the Security Council, the Economic and Social Council, the Trusteeship Council, the International Court of Justice and the General Secretariat.

The UN offices are located in New York, Geneva and Vienna, and for the development of the entrusted activities it has different programs and specialized agencies around the world such as UNHCR, UN Women, UNICEF or WFP, among others.
