Change Murcia asks for the rights of the volunteers who work in the archaeological remains of Monteagudo to be recognized (22/10/2018)

Murcia change ask in the plenary next Thursday that the City Council recognizes the rights of volunteers working on the project of archaeological intervention of the palatial complex of Monteagudo, with the aim that they can perform their work within a legal framework to regulate their action at the municipal and autonomous levels.

In order to achieve this objective, the proposal for municipal training also includes the commitment of the local government to comply with the regional Volunteering Law, which refers to the "convenience" of recognizing the work of people who contribute their strength of non-profit work.

The aforementioned rule lists among the rights of volunteers to be insured against the risks of accident, illness and damage;

have an accreditation that certifies your volunteer status;

carry out the activity in conditions of safety and hygiene and receive recognition of their social contribution.

Nacho Tornel, spokesman for the municipal group of Cambiemos Murcia, recalled that for the materialization of the motion the Consistory can activate the cultural volunteer service (SECOVU), created in 2017 for the pavilion 2 of the Artillery Barracks and that Today, there is no social or cultural project attached to it.

"Volunteers in Monteagudo have to be covered by a public entity," said Tornel, who does not conceive that the City Council will finally find that work carried out voluntarily and without profit can become an undercover work practice. , contrary to the legislation.

The mayor has also criticized that the first calls aimed at forming groups of volunteers were made through social networks and those responsible for the municipal council of Monteagudo, and not from the municipal authorities, which, in his opinion, "would have been the logical ".
