Murcia explains its Smart City model in the Plenary of the Urban Initiatives Network in Benidorm (20/10/2018)

The City Council of Murcia has participated in the VIII Plenary of the Urban Initiatives Network (RIU) in Benidorm.

This event was attended by representatives of different public administrations and the administrator for Portugal and Spain of the Directorate General for Regional and Urban Policy (DG REGIO) of the European Commission.

The plenary session has been opened by the Directors General of the Ministries of Development and Finance and the Generalitat Valenciana.

The Urban Initiatives Network (RIU) is one of the Sector Networks, foreseen in the National Reference Strategic Framework of Spain, which aims to be an open forum and exchange of experiences among entities that have received funding from European funds.

The Intelligent Management Model being carried out by the City of Murcia aims to bring the City Council closer to the citizen.

The intelligent management of cities, the Smart model applied to the public sphere, has a priority and essential objective, to put these technological advances at the service of people to improve their quality of life and the environment in which they live.

The MiMurcia project has been valued by the Ministry of Industry as the most ambitious project in Spain, in competitive competition with 111 cities, in the RED.es call.

"Our goal is to team up with all the residents of the municipality, to give them a voice and to feel heard, there is nothing more important for this corporation than to facilitate the life of all Murcians, we are at your service and we have to build a Murcia together" commented José Guillén.

The Strategy of Integrated Sustainable Urban Development 'It Murcia: Innovation + Tradition', has a global budget of € 17.5 M funded from the European Regional Development Fund 2014-2020, of which just over € 14 M will come from the program FEDER.

The execution period runs until the end of 2023.

Urban Strategies 2020

The City of Murcia, together with the Santa Coloma de Gramanet and Barcelona City Council, has exposed its experience of implementing Urban Strategies in the programming period 2014-2020, which is the highest level of execution among all entities beneficiaries.

A meeting has also been held on the Urban Agenda that seeks to guide in the sense of sustainable urban policies with social, environmental and economic objectives.

It also aims to promote improvements in the areas of regulation and planning, financing, governance, knowledge, transparency and participation.

Another working group in which the City Council of Murcia has actively participated has been in the Monitoring and Evaluation of EDUSI, focused on improving access, use and quality of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in integrated urban development strategies through actions in eGovernment and Smart Cities.

The City of Murcia has presented its solutions and experiences in the implementation of OT2 and the effective use of ICT in the city of Murcia.
