'Walking for Freedom' conscience against human trafficking and the abolition of slavery (20/10/2018)

At 17:00 hours, thousands of people from around the world will join the movement to raise awareness against human trafficking, whose people 98% are women

The City of Murcia provides economic emergency social assistance to women victims of gender violence or victims of trafficking for the purpose of sexual exploitation

Murcia joins for the third year the initiative "Walking for Freedom" that will tour the streets of the city this afternoon.

Councilor for Social Rights, Conchita Ruiz, will participate this afternoon in the event, organized by the NGO A21, with the collaboration of the City Council, with the aim of raising awareness against trafficking in persons and promoting the abolition of modern slavery step by step.

Thousands of people around the world are going to join a movement of awareness and awareness in the fight against human trafficking, the new modern slavery and whose people 98% are women.

In Murcia, the City of Murcia, adds for the third consecutive year to this awareness action called "Walking for Freedom", organized by the International Association A-21.

This activity is proposed in the II Plan for Equality of Opportunities between Women and Men of the City of Murcia, and responds to the objective of raising awareness and inform the public about violence against women and trafficking in persons for the purpose of sexual exploitation .

The initiative consists of a silent walk, step by step, with the motto: "Walking for Freedom" that takes place annually with the aim of raising awareness about the injustice of trafficking in persons and continue to rescue, restore and rebuild lives.

It is not posed as a protest, but as a silent and simple line of people walking through the millions of men, women and children who remain trapped in slavery today.

Its objective is to "sensitize much more, provoke a change in the fight against human trafficking and promote this movement to abolish modern slavery step by step," says Conchita Ruiz who, as in previous years, will be one of the participants in the March.

The tour will start at 5:00 pm from the Plaza Circular, advancing along Constitución Avenue towards Gran Vía Escultor Salzillo, Glorieta de España, Plaza Cardenal Belluga, Calle Trapería, Plaza Santo Domingo, to culminate in Plaza Constitución, where it will be held a cultural activity with the Carmen Romero Dance Academy.

Last year there were more than 600 walks in 50 countries.

In Spain, 14 cities participated, while this year 22 will participate, including Murcia.

The City of Murcia allocates aid to women in a situation of special vulnerability

In addition to financial aid for women victims of gender violence, the City of Murcia, through the Department of Social Rights and Development Cooperation, allocated 15,000 euros to the Association APRAMP dedicated to prevention, reintegration and care for women prostituted.

This Association has a reception center where it cares for women who are practicing prostitution and who in most cases have deficiencies in different areas: health, education, legal, social or work.

During the year 2017, more than 300 women visited the reception center of APRAMP in Murcia, a hundred of them for the first time.

The City also collaborates with Oblatas Murcia, allocating 20,000 euros a year, to offer comprehensive and personalized attention to women in contexts of prostitution, victims of trafficking for sexual exploitation or with signs, and / or who are in exclusion processes social, in addition to their children as appropriate.

For its part, the Committee to Support Sex Workers in Murcia has attended 1,857 people, mostly women who practice prostitution, who have received health and social care, thanks to the collaboration of 50,000 euros of the City Council of Murcia.
