Change Murcia supports the concentration today against the II International Congress of Bullfighting (18/10/2018)

Murcia change has expressed its "full support" to the concentration convened by the animal groups for this afternoon, at 6.30 pm, in front of the Romea theater, to protest against the celebration of the II International Congress of Bullfighting, which will take place in the municipality from today until next Sunday.

Councilor of municipal training, Margarita Guerrero, has expressed the rejection of their training to spend public money in shows that mistreat and torture animals, "disguising as culture what is far from it," or events commemorating the bullfighting, as is the case of this congress.

And it is that the event, which includes exhibitions, gastronomic activities, round tables and even a film cycle, has the support of the Murcia Consistory, among other public entities such as the Government of Spain, through the Ministry of Culture, and the own Regional administration.

In this regard, the mayor has reported that his municipal group has directed a communication to the Councilor for Economic Promotion, Culture and European Programs, Jesus Francisco, to know what has been such support, if it is economic and, in that case , with how much money the City Council supports this initiative.

However, "any kind of institutional support to a congress of this type should be censored," Guerrero said, after insisting that, far from what the event website says together with the logo of the City of Murcia, bullfighting "no it is linked to our history and even less to our DNA ".

The head of the Animal Rights group of Change Murcia, Manel Aparicio, has asserted that the Murcian citizenship has "other values to highlight and other needs" that need to be addressed urgently, as is the case of poverty and exclusion social, whose rate exceeds 34 percent in the Region.

In this sense, Cambiemos Murcia has added that it will support the celebration of events focused on "the real problems", but "we will never support congresses or any other activity that entails mistreatment, and many less that are financed with money from everyone".

On the other hand, the deputy of Unidos Podemos Javier Sánchez Serna presented on October 9 in the Congress several questions to the Government about what budget the Ministry of Culture allocates to the II International Congress of Bullfighting and which games are aimed at the social program and remuneration of the speakers.
