Past and present merge in the collective exhibition that the Academy of Fine Arts inaugurates today in La Glorieta (18/10/2018)

The Hall of Exhibitions of the City Council hosts 'Luster and decorum of these reynos', a sample that brings together a hundred works of great names of Murcia art as Gaya, Sofia Morales, Angel Hernansáez, Campillo, Pedro Cano, Carmen Artigas or José Carrilero.

It is an artistic journey that starts from the background of the Academy, pays homage to the founding academic and deceased and culminates with a demonstration of the life of the current institution.

The City Hall Exhibition Hall hosts this afternoon the opening of the exhibition of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Santa Maria de la Arrixaca, 'Luster and decorum of these reynos', a collective exhibition that brings together a hundred works that offer a journey from the first antecedents of the institution, back in the eighteenth century, historical works of its founding partners and the artists who drive it in our days.

The inauguration, which will be chaired by the Mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, will be held after the Act of initiation of the 2018-2019 academic year of the Academy, which hosts the Plenary Hall this afternoon, from 19.30.

Miguel Falomir Faus, director of the Museo Nacional del Prado, is in charge of the inaugural lecture, and Horacio Capel Sáez will be inaugurated as an Honor Scholar.

"This is the first time that the Academy exposes its enormous creative wealth in the House of all Murcia, with works of the names of the art of our land as Ramón Gaya, Sofía Morales, Ángel Hernansáez or Campillo, which intermingle with paintings, sculptures and architectural designs of great contemporary artists such as Pedro Cano, Carmen Artigas, José Carrilero or the architect Vicente Martínez Gadea, "explained the mayor, who added that" the exhibition also includes the written work of professors, writers, journalists, archaeologists and musical creators, who constitute the valuable heritage of the Academy. "

Three stages for three stages

The exhibition, made up of the Academy's own funds and donations from individuals and institutions (such as the Salzillo Museum and the Alfonso X El Sabio Institute), welcomes visitors with works that recall the Academy's history, dating back to the Second half of the 18th century, when the Patriotic School of Drawing was created, directed by Francisco Salzillo.

The most outstanding work in this access room is the portrait of Salzillo, painted in the 19th century by Juan Albacete and Long.

The next room has been conceived as a tribute to the founding academics of the Academy (it was created in 1999) who have already passed away.

The exhibition shows some of his works, belonging to various stages of their lives, with names such as Ramón Gaya, Sofía Morales, José Antonio Molina Sánchez, Manuel Muñoz Barberán, Ángel Hernansáez, Antonio Campillo, Antonio Salas, Juan Barceló, Jaime Capmany , Manuel Díaz Cano or Demetrio Ortuño;

visualizing the existing links between plastic arts and literary or musical creation.

The third room is a demonstration of the life of the current Academy.

Dedicated to the academics of alive numbers, it is a list of the diverse tendencies in the plastic arts and in the architecture.

Painting, sculpture, architecture and written work of the academics present: Francisco Marín, Cristóbal Belda, Mariano de Paco, Ángel Iniesta, Germán Ramallo, Martín Páez, María del Carmen Sánchez-Rojas, Miguel Baró, Pascual Martínez, José Carrilero, Pedro Pan da Torre, Álvaro Zaldívar, Vicente Ruiz, Miguel Angel Centenero, Mariano Ruipérez, José Toledo, Esteban Campuzano, María Dolores Fernández Arcas, José García Martínez, Javier Artigas, Antonio Narejos, Octavio de Juan, Manuel Barnuevo, Simón Ángel Ros, Juan Martínez Lax, Vicente Martínez Gadea, Carmen Artigas and Dionisio Page.

Free guided tours

The name of the exhibition 'Luster and decorum of these reynos' is taken from an expression of King Fernando VI written in the introduction to the edition of the statutes of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando, published in 1757.

The exhibition can be visited until December 16 and offers the possibility of free guided tours, by students of the Degree in Art History of the University of Murcia, students of the Department of Art History and scholars of the Royal Academy.
