'The Climate: air, water, earth and fire', in an international congress (17/10/2018)

The Spanish Climatology Association (AEC) holds in Cartagena (Murcia) from October 17 to 19, 2018 its 11th International Congress under the title: 'The Climate: Air, Water, Earth and Fire'.

The Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT) and the University of Murcia (UMU) participate under the umbrella of the Campus Mare Nostrum in the organization of the congress.

In the eleventh edition there will be an update on atmospheric and climatic issues of great interest and social impact.

It will delve into topics such as: climate change, extreme events such as floods or droughts, climate change scenarios or dependence on certain social or economic aspects of weather conditions.

"We will also analyze the role of communication and dissemination, in particular, the work of scientists and journalists to bring climate information to society in a clear and rigorous manner, a key aspect for important problems such as climate change." , UMU researcher Pedro Montávez emphasizes.

One of the great novelties of this edition will be the premiere of two scientific documentaries of Spanish production, within the fourth paper 'Spreading the climate culture'.

The screening will be open to the general public and not only to the participants in the congress.

On the one hand 'Antarctica.

Life between ice and rock ', produced by the Platform for Scientific Dissemination of the Complutense University of Madrid;

on the other, 'Chasing Traces from the Past' coordinated by the researcher of the University of Zaragoza, Luis Alberto Longares.

Also, after the broadcast will open a round table and discussion to discuss the experiences and the future of scientific dissemination.

The representatives of organizations and institutions (FECYT, ASECIC, ACOMET, producers and scientific film platforms), will offer their vision on the dissemination of knowledge.

The congress covers more than 150 research papers, including posters and oral talks;

as well as five conferences of prestigious scientists of the World Meteorological Organization, the European Medium Term Forecasting Center, the Supercomputing Center of Barcelona, ​​the Helmholtz Center for Environmental Research and the Center for Industrial Technological Development.
