The number of students enrolled in language courses at the University of Murcia grew by 45% in the first four months (16/10/2018)

More than one thousand three hundred people have enrolled this semester in the courses of the Language Service of the University of Murcia, a figure that represents an increase of 45% compared to the enrollment of last year.

This increase in enrollment has occurred in all languages and levels, but especially in German, where it has gone from 48 to 126 students;

also in English, going from 414 to 640, and even in Japanese, which already has 51 students.

This year the Language Service has carried out an extension of the training offer and changes in the teaching methodology to promote the teaching of languages, as an essential part of the internationalization policy of the University of Murcia.

The total of courses and levels has been increased up to 76 courses in order to meet the high demand (1,344 students).

As part of this plan, the training offered by the Language Service has been restructured, reducing the presence of the courses and adjusting the calendar so that it does not coincide with the exams of the university degrees and regulated education.

In addition, up to 3 CRAU credits can be obtained for each four-month course passed.

The price has also been adjusted to make it affordable to the university community.

Finally, the offer of blended courses in different languages has been extended to make access to training more comfortable.

Another action that has been launched is the realization of diagnostic tests to new students who request it to determine their level and guide them in the ways to get their certification according to their interests.

On the other hand, the Language Service has an extensive range of certifications in several languages, as well as preparation courses for different external certification tests.

Last summer a communication campaign was carried out on social networks with the aim of publicizing all the news that has been launched this year.

The University of Murcia is carrying out a linguistic policy of internationalization in different ways and according to the general framework that the CRUE has established for all Spanish universities.

The main objectives are to strengthen the training and accreditation in languages of the university community (students, PDI and PAS) as well as the implementation of bilingual degrees.

It is also intended to promote the learning of other languages besides English, as well as support for methodological training in the teaching of a language as an instrumental language.

It is necessary that students acquire competitive levels in foreign languages, both for the completion of undergraduate studies and for the completion of stays in mobility programs.
