The PSOE will take a motion to the Plenary to protect the Palmerales Chico and Grande of Santiago and Zaraiche and recover the Casa del Palmeral (13/10/2018)

The proposal that councilor Enrique Ayuso will defend in the plenary session of day 25 includes the adequacy of the canal part of the request of the Municipal Board and will demand from the City Council "a greater involvement" to save a place of "undoubted historical and environmental value" In the garden

The Municipal Socialist Group in the City of Murcia will propose cataloging as a singular tree of local interest for its environmental, historical and cultural values known as Palmeral Chico de Santiago and Zaraiche and carrying out a recovery action in accordance with the same criteria as the employees in the Palmeral Grande.

In addition, the PSOE will consider studying the acquisition and subsequent rehabilitation of the Palm House of Zaraiche for future use as an associative public center of the municipality.

Another of the proposals included in this motion is to study the incorporation into the Palmeral Grande of the dewatering site located in its southern vicinity and which is listed as a green area.

The PSOE intends that a project of integral protection of the zone be developed that includes together the Palmerales Chico and Grande de Zaraiche, with its possible extension on the south side, which includes the Palmeral House and the Zaraiche irrigation channel, as a nexus of union between both palm groves.

"The City of Murcia has recently carried out various recovery works for the Palmeral Grande de Santiago and Zaraiche, works that have received the support and funding of the Municipal Board, which is setting an example to avoid degradation. an action that the Board itself has reiterated as necessary - it has done so for several years and unanimously of all political groups - and aims to recover this natural heritage for the municipality, however time passes and this natural space continues without regenerate ", says Enrique Ayuso after visiting the area with the vice president of the Board, José María Herrera.

That is why the socialist mayor will demand the City Council "a greater involvement" to recover "a place of undeniable historical and environmental value."

The Palm Grove Chico of Zaraiche occupies an area of almost 3,000 square meters in which about a hundred date palms (Phoenix dactylifera) grow and it is located less than 100 meters from the Palmeral Grande.

Given the state of abandonment in which it is and after an unfortunate action of landscaping in previous years, the Association for the Conservation of the Garden and the Heritage of Murcia (Huermur) has requested its cataloging and protection as a singular and local interest tree grove , a request to which the PSOE adds.

Both palm groves are connected by the irrigation channel of Zaraiche, a water channel that is also deteriorated, with a lot of weeds and garbage, as the necessary maintenance and cleaning tasks have not been carried out.

The plot located on the south side of the Palmeral Grande and which currently serves as storage for scrapped machinery suffers a severe landscape and visual alteration in the environment and that according to the General Plan of Urban Planning (PGOU has the listing of green area.

As for the Casa del Palmeral, a baroque-style mansion that dates back to the 18th century and is located between the Palmeral and Church lanes, it is also in an advanced state of abandonment and with the risk of its roof collapsing.

To make matters worse, as proof of "the carelessness" of the City Council, a container of garbage has been placed on one of its sides, in which waste and debris often accumulate.

"We are concerned that what should be a set that conform a unique landscape milestone in the Huerta and the municipality of Murcia, a cultural, scenic and natural enclave that is a jewel, today is in a sorry state and that has to take us to make decisions for environmental recovery, and even to get the use and enjoyment of the residents of Murcia in all its extension, "says Ayuso, who says he hopes that this issue will lead to a joint motion of all groups with representation at City Hall.
