Murcia City Council works on the Strategy for the Promotion of Health and Prevention in the National Health System (10/10/2018)

Felipe Coello, Councilor for Sports and Health, this morning attended the second meeting on the Strategy for Health Promotion and Prevention in the National Health System, which proposes the progressive development of interventions aimed at gaining health and preventing diseases, injuries and disability.

An initiative framed in the implementation plan of the Chronicity Approach Strategy in the National Health System (SNS).

Coello stressed that "the objective of this meeting is to create a common framework of work whose sole purpose is to improve the quality of life of people living in our municipality, to promote the health and welfare of the population by promoting environments and styles of healthy life and enhancing safety in the face of injuries.

In our quantifiable global goal, it is proposed to increase the life expectancy in good health at birth in Spain by 2 years by 2020 ".

"This strategy is an opportunity to integrate and coordinate health promotion and prevention efforts among all levels, sectors and actors involved.

It also represents a new impetus in the reorientation of the National Health System, which is a demand of our environment and a reiterated recommendation by international organizations such as WHO and the European Union.

Society gives high value to health and demands a joint, coordinated and integrated response of effective interventions and maintained in the time that is what we are working on ", adds the councilor.

The strategic lines that are addressed are: empowerment of public health, territorial coordination and governance, equity in health, reorientation of health services, intersectorality in health, empowerment in health, healthy and safe environments, as well as participation and community action.

This strategy is developed in a three-dimensional axis of action: by populations, by environments and by factors to be addressed.

The factors addressed in this strategy correspond to those that are more important from the point of view of the approach to chronicity, healthy eating, physical activity, tobacco consumption and alcohol risk consumption, also adding emotional well-being and safety. of the environment with the aim of preventing unintentional injuries.

Currently we continue working on the local implementation of the strategy and in each of its phases.

First it was approved in the Plenary Session of the City Council and an inter-sectorial board was set up, after which the strategy was disseminated and a mapping of the main assets for the health of the municipality of Murcia was made.

Now we have the challenge of implementing actions at the local level, the territory of the neighborhoods and districts, counting as a fundamental axis citizen participation.

The MSSSI in the framework of the EPSP makes available to the municipalities the map Localiza Salud (localizasalud.msssi.es).

It is a map of resources or assets for health that serves to give visibility and value to all those structures and actions that the municipality has and that contribute to the health and well-being of citizens.

By identifying and painting them on a map, the accessibility of neighbors to these resources is facilitated.

Within the framework of the agreement between the Ministry of Health, Social Services and Equality and the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP), we have been granted a grant for the development of actions within the framework of the local implementation of the Strategy for the Promotion of Health and Prevention in the National Health System.
