The City of Murcia creates the Green Schools Network formed by more than 30 schools (09/10/2018)

Last year about 8,500 students had the opportunity to work and contribute with Green Schools in the socio-environmental improvement of their center.

This new Green Schools Network will have a website and will offer the opportunity to be part of other forums nationwide

The City of Murcia presents the signature of the document by which has created the Network of Green Schools of the municipality of Murcia, which have attended 32 schools through the program 'Murcia, ecology of a city', which has been developing for the Green Schools project for 18 years.

Antonio Navarro, Councilor for Urban Planning, Environment, Water and Garden, has indicated that "These 18 years of evolution and development, which year after year have been marking new needs and commitments with schools, has seen the need for creation of this network of green schools that today we present and put into operation with more than 30 educational centers ".

For this reason, with the aim of launching projects that turn the center into a more environmentally committed space, the Green Schools Network of the City of Murcia has been created, with the aim of boosting educational processes aimed at sustainability and mobilizing to the educational community around these processes.

Last year about 8,500 students had the opportunity to work and contribute to Green Schools in the socio-environmental improvement of their center, but to enrich this project and share experiences to improve this work, this network of schools has been created.

In this way, meetings are held so that teachers know the educational and multidisciplinary advantages and the didactic and pedagogical resources provided by a sustainability project in the teaching center.

To this end, an annual exchange of experiences will be organized, because the work carried out in this program requires a tool for dissemination, participation and communication between the centers and between these and the City Council.

In addition, the program "Murcia, ecology of a city" and with it, Green Schools, a web space, news dissemination, educational resources, didactic materials, publications, etc ... will be provided.

"This new initiative aims to promote mechanisms for participation, communication and dissemination among the centers of the municipality of Murcia involved in this network, assess and recognize the work done by schools and teachers, facilitate exposure and discussion of experiences developed, analyzing the results achieved and, finally, collect the contributions of the centers and incorporate them into the process of implementation of the Network. From the City of Murcia we coordinate the program, making available to the schools the human and material resources, as well as the necessary technical advice ", adds Navarro.

The Network will also offer the opportunity to be part of other forums at the national level, such as Schools for Sustainability in Network (ESenRed), which is the state network of networks of sustainable educational centers, promoted on the initiative of public administrations (Autonomous Communities, Town Councils , Provincial Councils ...) and that has the support of CNIIE (National Center for Innovation and Educational Research) and CENEAM (National Center for Environmental Education).
