José Ballesta inaugurates the urban art mural 'La Cara de La Paz', by the Murcian artist Carlos Callizo

The author will present the work to the Guinness Book of Records as the largest female face painted in Spain

The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, together with the Councilor for Infrastructure, Public Works and Services, Rebeca Pérez, and residents of the neighborhood inaugurated this morning the graffiti 'La Cara de La Paz', by the Murcian artist Carlos Callizo.

It is the highest urban art mural in the Region and Spain, there is only one of the same dimensions in Gerona.

It has a height of 32 meters and a width of 12 meters and in its preparation the artist has used about 300 kilos of plastic paint.

"It is the third large-scale mural that we inaugurated this year, after those of Cabezo de Torres and Monteagudo, within the initiative of urban art in neighborhoods and districts promoted by the Graffiti Office," said José Ballesta, who added that "thanks to the integration of urban art in our streets, we are transforming emblematic places of our neighborhoods and districts into open-air museums with works of renowned artists, as is the case of this First of May Avenue, which circulates more than 5,000 daily vehicles".

This initiative of the City of Murcia, the Municipal Office of Graffiti and Ferrovial Services, is framed in the Urban DNA project of La Paz, and adds to other improvement actions that are being carried out in this neighborhood.

The author will present the work to the Guinness Book of Records as the largest female face painted in Spain.

It is the third mural that this artist has in the city of Murcia, within his collaboration with the Office of Graffiti (the other two are in the Princess Complex and the square of the FREMM).

The original and colorful work has been made on the south facade of the building located on Avenida Primero de Mayo, number 6, block E-6, located in the neighborhood of La Paz.

Ten days have taken Murcia painter Carlos Callizo to develop the composition of Paz, the woman who puts a face to this neighborhood of Murcia and whose gaze transmits serenity.

To carry out this work we have worked with two cranes, an articulated arm, which reaches up to 40 meters in height, and a lifting platform up to 18 meters high to make the lower parts.

The mural has been treated with a protective varnish so that the colors last longer and resist solar radiation and inclement weather.

Tomorrow, Monday, the author will give the final touch to some details of the mural.

The ADN Urbano project is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) of the European Union, within the framework of the Operational Program for sustainable growth 2014-2020, with the DUSI Murcia IT Strategy: Innovation + Tradition.

The City of Murcia bet on talent

The Murcian artist Carlos Callizo is a professor of painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Murcia and Doctor 'Cum Laude' in Fine Arts.

In 2008 he receives the National Fine Arts Award and an end-of-career award on university education with honorable mention by the Ministry of Education and Science.

It has two other murals in our city made with the Municipal Office of Graffiti in 2017 on the occasion of the activities carried out in the exhibition 'Urban art, from the street to the museum'.
