The University of Murcia renews its commitment to research and promotion of Corporate Social Responsibility (01/10/2018)

The University of Murcia has signed on Monday the agreement for the renewal of the Chair of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) with the Autonomous Community, which has also joined the nine companies and social organizations that sponsor and support research in this area.

The Chair of CSR of the University of Murcia was born in 2010 and the signing of this agreement represents a renewal of its objectives for the next four years.

Grupo Fuertes, Fundación Cajamurcia, Grupo Orenes, Aguas de Murcia, Fundación Cepaim-Integral Action with Migrates, Fundación Diagrama, Disfrimur, Hero and Agromediterránea Hortofrutícula are the organizations that sponsor the Chair, which since its creation has already generated 223 research publications on RSC recognized internationally.

The master's degree in RSC, which this course begins its sixth edition, and the memories in RSC of the Region of Murcia are some of the most outstanding results of this chair.

The rector of the University of Murcia, José Luján, said that the Chair is "an initiative to which we have great affection, because it has to do with our commitment to open society, in this way, in what is a circle virtuous, has known how to connect with the Community and with companies committed to the idea that, in addition to commercial profit, companies also have a commitment to their fellow citizens. "

Luján has explained that from the Chair of CSR the University offers these companies the resources and methods to better realize this commitment to society.

Javier Celdrán, Minister of Universities, Employment and the Environment, highlighted "the enormous research work carried out by the Chair, which is making it possible to advance the concept of CSR applied to the business sector".

One of the issues that has highlighted Celdrán is the promotion that the Chair makes to identify good practices, which contributes "extending the concept of CSR beyond the reputation of the company and make it evolve towards something transversal and strategic that has to be in the day to day of the company and that goes from the conciliation of the family and labor life of the employees, the support to the Environment or the integration of people with disabilities ".

Longinos Marín, director of the Chair of CSR of the University of Murcia, has emphasized the importance of the joint work of the University, the Ministry, leading companies in the region and third sector organizations.

Marín explained that research in this field developed at the University of Murcia indicates that "CSR generates competitiveness to the extent that no company can survive in the future to international competition without the resources that gives social responsibility."
