More than 100 children participate in the Conference on sustainable development organized by Primafrio (28/09/2018)

The international road transport company Primafrio, in collaboration with the Catholic University of San Antonio de Murcia (UCAM) and within the framework of the Chair created between both institutions, held today, at the Campus of Los Jerónimos, the 1st Conference Objectives of Sustainable Development (ODS) and Childhood, in which around 100 children between ten and twelve years old have participated, coming from the schools of the Region, San Vicente de Paúl and La Inmaculada.

Literacy

According to United Nations data, more than half of the children in the world who are not enrolled in school live in sub-Saharan Africa and 617 million young people lack the basic knowledge in arithmetic and a minimum level of literacy.

Of the seventeen sustainable development goals set by the UN for 2030, the fourth of them focuses on education under the title 'Quality education', and points out that this is the basis for improving our lives.

In addition, access to inclusive and equitable education can help to supply the local population with the necessary tools to develop innovative solutions to the world's biggest problems.

Educational workshops

That is why Primafrio, together with the UCAM, is looking for this day to involve the children of the Region of Murcia in the challenges of the planet.

Through teaching workshops, in collaboration with the Vicente Ferrer Foundation and Science, the importance of education for life and its interconnection with each SDG has been transmitted.

These participative talks have also served to inform on how to make the most of one's own resources, thus causing the least damage to the planet in line with the circular economy and the terms repair, reuse, remanufacture, recycle and valorize.

They have also overcome a water gymkhana that has helped them, while they have fun, to raise awareness about the importance and scarcity of this good that belongs to everyone.

In the words of Jorge Couto, deputy general director of Grupo Primafrio: "These workshops allow us to interact as a team and are a great opportunity to illustrate to our children the importance of education for the development of society and their involvement as citizens of a world connected".

For its part, Estrella Núñez, Vice Chancellor for Research at the UCAM, highlighted the importance of activities such as these that try to raise awareness among children at an early age about the importance of sustainable development.

"They are the future, therefore, that they are being told that not everything is worth it, that we have only one planet and we have to take care of it, that goes through them", he assured.

The UCAM works on circular economy through its Chair in CSR.

"All the actions that are taking place in the environment of this Chair, are very well received by the business world, because in the end we are all aware that without social, economic and environmental awareness, there is no sustainable development for society" , added Estrella Núñez.

The day, which has an annual vocation, has been promoted by the Primafrio Foundation, a non-profit organization that has among its aims to promote entrepreneurship and the social economy, the promotion of sports, the defense of the environment and biodiversity, research and innovation and socially responsible investment, both nationally and internationally.
