Based on a sample of 663 Spanish manufacturing companies during the period 2007-2014, the results of this research show that family businesses that have export activity acquire knowledge that allows them to be more efficient than companies not familiar with innovation. of your products and processes.
At the same time, this learning effect is greater for the leading technology family companies, which can improve their innovation gap compared with the technologically lagging family businesses.
These results are useful for managers of family businesses to be aware that exporting not only entails possible economic benefits, but also implies a series of opportunities to learn how to improve in the services they offer.
