The PSOE demands steps for pedestrians who "play their lives" when crossing the old Alicante road that is crossing El Esparragal (19/09/2018)

The Esparragal is a district with a high density of road traffic given its proximity to Murcia and Santomera and has a population that is growing and already exceeds 7,000 inhabitants.

There coexistence between drivers and pedestrians is not always adequate due to some deficiencies that should not be so difficult to solve but have not been solved for years.

Therefore, from the Municipal Socialist Group will insist on the application of some measures to avoid what has been repeated daily and has to do with road safety, or rather with road safety.

It is not new, but it is urgent to find formulas to improve what is wrong.

The spokesman and member of the PSOE in the Municipal Board of El Esparragal, Andrés Pérez, presented at the Ordinary Plenary held in the district last May a proposal for it.

It is about solving an obvious problem related to traffic and affecting pedestrians who day after day cross the old road of Alicante in a stretch of almost half a kilometer between the traffic light of the park of La Flora and the first round that there is in the direction of Santomera and in which there is not a single pedestrian crossing to cross the road without risk of being run over.

The races of the people who step on the road and the braking of vehicles are common in a place with a lot of traffic both motorized and pedestrian, because in the area there is a supermarket and a school, as well as several shops, and in which produced several abuses, as residents of the district comment, with which the councilor of the PSOE, Juan Vicente Larrosa, during a visit made in the company of Andrés Pérez.

The Socialists of El Esparragal have already requested that the municipal technical services of Traffic consider the need to place a traffic light and several steps of zebra in order to respond to the demand of the neighbors.

In addition, there is a dead lane that hinders the passage of people to cross and they have to ford that step to do so and, faced with the existence of that obstacle, the PSOE, together with Ciudadanos y Cambiemos Murcia, demanded that it be proceeded to eliminate the sidewalk said dead lane and that the existing traffic light in that area was moved a few meters to expand the road area in that way.

In this way, the extension could be used to build a second lane and cars that do not have to turn left could circulate leaving the other vehicles free and stop causing traffic collapse.

The Socialist Group in the City Council joins these proposals with a motion that will take the plenary session on Thursday, September 27 and that Larrosa will raise.

"The black point of traffic that exists in El Esparragal at the height of the population center of El Campillo makes pedestrians literally play their lives, because in almost half a kilometer of track there is only one pedestrian crossing, which is also deteriorated, and There are no sidewalks, since the Municipal Board has asked for a study and improvement of the area to the Department of Traffic, but they are lax as a response and the mayor Lola Sanchez does nothing about it, "says Larrosa.
