The City Council has not filled the librarian's position for one year at the Pelagio Ferrer in El Palmar (18/09/2018)

The vowel of Cambiemos Murcia in El Palmar, Ana Serrano, has denounced today that the City Council has not filled the vacant librarian position in the Pelagio Ferrer municipal library for a year, which has meant the suspension of activities and, even, the realization of requests for material since there is no responsible for this public space.

Serrano explained that El Palmar is a library for which the work of a librarian is essential, but "neither the president of the municipal council, Daniel Hernández, of Ciudadanos, nor the local government team of the Popular Party, have taken measures to solve the very precarious situation that El Palmar lives in terms of public and dignified services ".

El Palmar, with more than 23,000 inhabitants, outnumbers thirty towns in the Region of Murcia "and, despite that, the Consistory suppresses us more and more public services or adds to the precariousness of the few they are staying ", the vowel of the municipal training has added.

Inaugurated in 1984, the Pelagio Ferrer library has three assistants and an orderly and is located in a three-story building with no elevator.

Until last year it hosted activities such as storytelling, meetings with authors, workshops, book rake or guided tours.

Added to this situation is the cut that the library schedule has suffered this summer, as it closed in the evenings and on Saturdays, which translated into 19 fewer hours of service.
