266 people with disabilities benefit from bonotaxi aid (08/09/2018)

The Department of Social Rights, directed by Conchita Ruiz, has granted individual financial assistance in the current year to a total of 266 people with disabilities severely affected in their mobility to make use of the taxi service.

These subsidies, known as bonotaxi, have meant an individual average amount of 340 euros and an investment by the City Council of almost 90,000 euros.

The purpose of this program is to offer an economic benefit for travel by taxi to people with disabilities with serious problems to use public transport.

The aid can be used to attend vocational training centers, work centers, rehabilitation, medical check-ups, cultural and leisure activities, and to attend to any other mobility need in specific situations.

This type of subsidy is processed through an annual public call to which all persons with residence in the municipality can attend and who have recognized their legal status of disability that prevent them from using public collective transport, such as the bus.

The socio-economic circumstances of the applicants are taken into account for their granting.

The aim of contributing to facilitate the mobility of people who have mobility difficulties is also achieved with another line of action, such as the subsidies granted to taxi professionals to renew their adapted vehicles.

The effort made by both the sector and the City Council has made it possible to place Murcia as the first city in the region that meets the 5% share of accessible taxis.
