An Indian delegation knows the Smart City project carried out by the City of Murcia (05/09/2018)

The European Commission, through the General Directorate of Regional and Urban Policy, chose Murcia as the representative city of Europe in Asia to export its City Model to India, specifically to Solapur.

They have been interested in the MiMurcia project that aims to improve the quality of life of citizens and the environment in which they live by relying on technological tools.

In this line they have known the projects carried out by the University of Murcia together with the City Council as smart luminaries, which is part of the 2020 strategy.

The Councilor for the Modernization of Administration and Urban Development, José Guillén has met with the official delegation of Solapur, led by the mayor of the Indian city, Shobha Banshetti, who participates in the Murcia-Solapur International Working Group to show them the project Smart City carried out by the City of Murcia in collaboration with the University of Murcia.

"The Smart Management Model that is being applied in Murcia aims to bring the City Council closer to the citizen. The Smart model applied to the public sphere aims to improve the quality of life of citizens and the environment in which they live" highlighted José Guillén.

The MiMurcia project has been valued by the Ministry of Industry as the most ambitious project in Spain, in competitive competition with 111 cities, in the call of RED.es, with a total project budget amounting to 8 million euros, of which 31% comes from municipal financing and the rest from FEDER Funds.

The aim is to create a new smart city model to encompass the fundamental areas of citizen participation, social innovation and user service, open government, sustainable mobility and effective management of public resources and services, priority areas that show a focus direct towards citizens, who are the true protagonists of the Smart development model.

The Indian delegation, which will remain in Murcia until Saturday, is interested in this project that allows improving the different communication channels between City Council and citizen, allowing proactive communication on the part of the former;

making more efficient use of the city's resources both by the local administration and by the citizens themselves, be it in the case of lighting systems, as in the use of water destined for irrigation, as well as improving the conditions of quality of life in the center of the city that promotes communication, cooperation, participation and innovation within it.

Smart Campus

The official delegation of Solapur also knows the projects being carried out by the University of Murcia.

Last July, 9 "smart" street lamps were installed in the Espinardo campus to improve the energy efficiency of outdoor lighting. This technology based on low consumption devices incorporates a system of self-regulation of intensity that adapts to the occupancy of the via.

The objective of the project is the reduction of energy consumption and CO2 emissions.

The system allows the manipulation of all exterior lighting from a computer, tablet or smartphone, by zones, schedules and dates, detects faults and monitors environmental parameters.

This project is part of the 2020 strategy (20% less pollution, 20% less electricity consumption, 20% more renewable energies) of Campus Sostenible and Smart Campus of the University.

The Genesis project is also being carried out, based on the Open Data initiative that allows to monitor all University buildings, fire and theft control units, air conditioning systems and all facilities machinery.

City explorer, which is called the intelligent management system, also offers services such as the location of disabled people and vehicles, and is capable of making intelligent decisions to efficiently manage the energy consumption of the monitored infrastructures.

The objectives are energy saving, the reduction of CO2 emissions, efficient management of meeting spaces, rooms and classrooms without having to worry about turning on / off any device, and access to the platform from any computer, tablet or Smartphone.

International Working Group Murcia - Solapur

The European Commission, through the General Directorate of Regional and Urban Policy, chose Murcia as the representative city of Europe in Asia to export its City Model to India, specifically, to Solapur, belonging to the state of Maharastra (center- west of the country), which has a population close to one million inhabitants.

Murcia thus leads the European program of International Urban Cooperation (IUC) in Asia, since the candidacy of the capital of the Region obtained the highest score of this call, which has ERDF funding, and which is allowing the transfer of good practices and the elaboration of a joint Local Action Plan focused on three aspects: Urban Governance & Regeneration, Public Spaces & Services and Water Management.

Likewise, Murcia also exports its strategic projects to cities in Latin America and the Caribbean, within the Sustainable Urban Knowledge Transfer Network (Urbelac), making an exchange of experiences with the cities of Buenos Aires, Campo Grande, Guadalajara and Montevideo.
