José Ballesta and counselor Miriam Guardiola hold a bilateral meeting in which they have addressed the recovery and enhancement of the entire medieval environment of Monteagudo.

The mayor states that "the involvement of the three administrations -state, regional and local- is essential to undertake this great integral project that Murcia deserves".

The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, and the Minister of Culture and Tourism, Miriam Guardiola, held a bilateral meeting today with their respective teams, which have addressed cultural projects and initiatives in the municipality of Murcia, among which highlights the recovery and enhancement of the entire medieval environment of Monteagudo.

"We believe that it is the most important medieval historical site that exists in the whole Mediterranean, a unique environment of millions of square meters, which can become the historical, cultural and tourist future of this municipality," said José Ballesta, who focused on the fact that "to undertake this great integral project that Murcia deserves is necessary the involvement of the three Administrations: state, regional and local".

The project includes the recovery and enhancement of the entire medieval environment of Monteagudo: the Castle, Castillejo and Castillo de Larache, as well as the environment that is being excavated at this moment in the skirt of Castillejo, and that is bringing the light a series of elements of capital importance in what was the recreational environment of the Wolf King in the twelfth century.

"Therefore, we want to develop a comprehensive project, since one part is owned by the State, another belongs to the Community and another is in private hands, but will be acquired by the City Council, through a project we are developing in these moments, "said José Ballesta, who added that" the objective is for the entire environment to be publicly owned ".

The Mayor of Murcia stressed that "in the Region there have been outstanding performances in other spaces that have been crucial, as is the whole setting of the Roman Theater of Cartagena, which has undertaken an important and magnificent work in recent years.

Also in Lorca, in all the surroundings of the Parador and the synagogue, an essential investment ".

In this regard, he noted that "now is the time of Murcia, with a comprehensive action in Monteagudo with the involvement of the three administrations in this unique environment, for which the City is developing a Special Protection Plan."
