José Guillén highlights in his proclamation of the Santa Cruz festivities the flavor of the town's history (02/09/2018)

The Councilor for Modernization of Administration, Urban Quality and Participation, José Guillén yesterday gave the kick-off to the festivities of Santa Cruz with the reading of the proclamation.

"Today, all of Murcia is looking at this hamlet, a land that is located in unique landscapes, where it is a pleasure to walk, because this hamlet is a quiet town open to a wide area", highlighted José Guillén, who emphasizes that "Santa Cruz is a peculiar place that contains in the air the flavor of history and the advantages of the future, a kind place where life is pleasant to develop ".

The councilor recalled that "the most accepted thesis on the origins of Santa Cruz argues that in this place there was a settlement of the Moorish population, the tribe or family of 'Benizá', which settled on these lands at the beginning of the 12th century, initiating the adaptation of the land for the cultivation and opening of irrigation ditches, one of which currently maintains the name of said tribe.

At the end of the s.

XVI appear in various documents references to the estate of Santa Cruz as property of Mr. Rodrigo Vázquez, 'Lord of Santa Cruz de la Ribera and Canalizo'.

"And those treasures of our municipality must be maintained and taken care of without forgetting that the real protagonists, who are at the center of everything, are the people," concluded José Guillén.

During the festivities, various activities will take place in the hamlet, such as the Coronation on Saturday the 8th, the day of coexistence on Sunday 9, the night of the theater on the 10th or Sunday the 16th, which will celebrate the patron saint's Mass, the Most Holy Christ of the Expiration.
