Six new NGOs are incorporated to the Municipal Council for Cooperation and Solidarity (01/09/2018)

The Municipal Council for Cooperation and Solidarity has elected six new NGOs to be part of this body during the next year.

Thus, representatives of the Entrepueblos Association, the Alianza por la Solidaridad Foundation, the Juan Ciudad Foundation, the Spanish Red Cross Region of Murcia, the Vicente Ferrer Foundation and the Community Development Institute will participate in both the ordinary and extraordinary meetings of the Council.

The statutes of this organization establish that the six Non-Governmental Organizations for Development (ONG'D) are renewed annually and that they have, among others, the following functions:

- Propose reasonably to the Corporation, the adoption of appropriate measures aimed at compliance with the municipal budget items, in terms of cooperation and solidarity, as well as their distribution.

- Advise the City Council and collaborate with it in matters of cooperation and solidarity, either on its own initiative or at the request of the former.

- Propose campaigns to raise awareness among the population about the situation of the so-called Third World countries, as well as roads of aid and solidarity.

- Propose actions in favor of the dissemination of the values ​​of peace, tolerance, solidarity and the non-violent resolution of conflicts.

- Organize meetings, courses and conferences related to cooperation and solidarity.

- Propose and collaborate in the establishment of relations with organizations from another territorial area, related to cooperation and solidarity.

- Channel the participation of citizens in the face of catastrophes, unforeseen events and emergencies, through a fund created for this purpose.

In addition to these six ONG'D, the Council is composed of the Councilor for Social Rights, a councilor for each municipal group, five members appointed by the Governing Board, two persons of recognized prestige and dedication to tasks related to the purposes of the Council, and a secretary.

With regard to the system of sessions, the Council holds ordinary and extraordinary meetings.

The ordinary ones are celebrated every six months, and the extraordinary ones when they are convened by the president or requested by a third of the members of the Council.
