Martínez-Oliva: 'We approve budgets to promote a Murcia of opportunities for all' (28/08/2018)

The councilor for Finance, Recruitment and Urban Mobility underlines that 'reserve the major role to the districts and social policies and allow us to complete the projects of the new model of city that the Government Team announced at the beginning of this Corporation'

For the fifth consecutive year, taxes, rates and public prices continue to fall.

In 2018, measures to reduce the tax burden, such as the lowering of water, the disappearance of the rate of water discharge from the water table to the sewerage system and the decrease in the rate of fords, are incorporated.

"The City of Murcia this year will have budgets that will allow Murcia to promote opportunities for all," said Eduardo Martinez-Oliva, councilor for Finance, Contracting and Urban Mobility.

The project, approved today, is based on four keys: protagonism of the districts and of the destined destines to the social welfare, public transport and investments.

The expense in districts exceeds 55.1 million euros, of which 17.5 million euros will be directly or indirectly managed;

13.4 M € is the amount of maintenance expenses (not including doctor's offices, cultural centers, senior centers, schools, supply centers, etc.);

22.2 M € will be invested by the different councils;

and € 1.8m are financed by the works and services plan of the Autonomous Community.

In addition, another € 14M that make up the extraordinary plan that includes lighting, civil works and gardens- works, included in the 2017 budgets but whose projects will be executed now, which brings the total amount of spending in neighborhoods and districts to 69.1 M €.

On the other hand, the weight of the social welfare items is found in that they grow above 7%, more than triple the amount of budgets (2.5%), to allow 'the development of social policies aimed at promoting the welfare of the Murcians and support the most vulnerable groups', explains Martínez-Oliva.

To this end, subsidies to entities of the third sector are increased, school canteen places and aid to minors from families without resources, more aid against energy poverty or extension of home help service for dependents increase.

In total, the budget for this area grew by more than 7.1%, almost 2 million euros, to stand at 29.4 million euros.

Third, the improvement of public transport will be reflected, among other aspects, in the recovery of frequencies in the lines of districts, recovery of the owl-bus, shuttle line of Santiago el Mayor, etc.

Also, the councilor for Finance, Contracting and Urban Mobility said that this Budget 'includes the necessary measures to continue and complete the projects of the new city model that the Government Team announced at the start of this Corporation', among which Murcia River, recovery of the Old Prison and the San Esteban site and its surroundings, Plan de Acción de la Huerta or the burial of the train tracks.

Regarding income, Martínez-Oliva recalled that "for the fifth consecutive year we continued to lower taxes, rates and public prices," to the extent that this exercise 'we incorporate measures to reduce the tax burden, such as the lowering of water, disappearance of the water discharge rate from the water table to the sewage system and the decrease in the rate of fords'.

The willingness to understand by the Popular Party and Citizens 'has allowed us to reach an agreement that goes far beyond a simple numerical or budgetary pact', concludes Martínez-Oliva, who reiterated that it establishes real commitments, which, far from partisan interests , not much personal, will serve to respond to the general interest of all Murcia, without distinction.
