Hot air balloons crossing the Murcian sky and cinema on the river will make the September Fair in 2018 (27/08/2018)

José Ballesta presents this year's program with more than 300 events that will begin on Thursday 30, with the descent of the Virgin, and will continue until Tuesday 11, the day of the Pilgrimage.

A long path of light along the river will be the central axis of the Fair, which will be connected from La Fica to El Malecón, by a tourist train with departures every half hour.

The riverbed will become an open-air movie theater where films will be screened for the whole family, which can be seen from boats or in a large meadow of artificial turf.

Spectacular regattas of hot air balloons that will fly over the Segura, a new tourist train that will connect the riverbed, from La Fica to El Malecón, and a Film River, with giant screen projections that can be enjoyed from boats or in the own speck, will turn the September Fair in 2018 into a historic one.

The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, today presented this year's program with more than 300 events that will begin this Thursday, the 30th with the descent of the Virgin and that will continue until Tuesday 11, the day of the Pilgrimage;

In an act attended by representatives of Moors and Christians, carnies, sponsors, musical groups, Caballeros de la Fuensanta, peñas huertanas and members of the Orchards.

The Fair of Lights

"This year's Fair is the Fair of Lights.

A long path of light along the river will be the central axis on which to develop all the news that will surprise Murcia this year, and which are articulated on two other pillars: Medieval Murcia and young people and children ", highlighted José Ballesta.

The Fica and the Malecón will be united through light, with daily audiovisual shows that will tell the story of the Segura and its link with Murcia and its Huerta, over the centuries.

The light show in three passes 'Río Segura, history flow' will be held from September 4 to 11, at 9.30, 22 and 22.30, from Manterola Pasarela to the Molinos del Río.

San Esteban: focus of the Medieval Murcia

The archaeological site of San Esteban will also witness an artistic show of lights, music and theater, which will tell the origins of the city, the secrets of the site and will go through the history of Murcia since its foundation by Abderramán II, with prominent figures from the Medieval Murcia as the King Wolf or Alfonso X the Wise.

It will be from Wednesday 12 to Saturday 15 with two daily passes, from 21.30 to 22.30.

Tourist train from La Fica to the Malecón

In addition to the light, the two emblematic environments of the Fair, La Fica and El Malecón, will also be connected by a tourist train that will connect both spaces along the river, every day, from 7.30 pm until after midnight.

A River of Cinema

The light will also be projected on the Segura in the form of a cinema on 3, 4 and 5 September, starting at 10 p.m.

The riverbed will become an open-air movie theater in which films will be screened for the whole family, from the upper part of the channel, at the height of the Plaza de la Paja (next to the Manterola Pasarela).

"The Murcian will be able to see the films from the river itself, mounted on boats, or on a large meadow of artificial turf that we will be able to use in the mota," said the mayor.

The capacity will be 500 people plus 20 boats that will be made available to the participants in order of arrival.

Balloons in the Murcian sky

The big surprise of this year will come through the air.

Six hot air balloons will fly over the Segura channel for the first time.

This is a Fair with roots and wings, an event with history, that accompanies us since Alfonso X El Sabio instituted it now 752 years ago, in which innovation and avant-garde are also present, "said José Ballesta.
