The UCAM and the OHB Foundation will investigate hyperbaric oxygenation therapies in athletes and cancer patients (24/08/2018)

To carry out these studies, the Catholic University of Murcia creates the Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Chair, with the OHB Foundation, which will be directed by neurosurgeon José Francisco Fabregat.

It will provide advice and scientific exchange in teaching activities, research and transfer of results related to hyperbaric medicine.

The president of the Catholic University of Murcia, José Luis Mendoza, and Marco Ander, general director of the Foundation dedicated to the provision of specialized medical services, have signed the agreement between both institutions that will lead to the Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Chair, directed by neurosurgeon José Francisco Fabregat, expert in hyperbaric medicine.

The Chair of `Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy ', managed by the Office for the Transfer of Research Results (OTRI), was born with the aim of developing collaborations in both teaching and research between the UCAM and the OHB Foundation in all areas of activity of the hyperbaric medicine, highlighting its application in sports medicine, radiotherapy oncology, neurosciences, respiratory failure, pain and musculoskeletal pathology.

"We are very grateful to the UCAM for the support and support it is giving us to continue evolving in this type of treatment," said the CEO of the OHB Foundation, Marco Ander, who also explains that "we are going to start this collaboration with two important lines of research, one in the field of sports medicine, to measure the recovery of athletes who are subject to many competitions and to improve the recovery of injuries, and another related to oncology, which will allow us to scientifically endorse the ability of hyperbaric therapy to enhance treatments with radiology, as well as assess the patient's recovery in the post-treatment ".

Estrella Núñez, Vice Chancellor for Research at the UCAM, explained that "we are going to develop joint training programs for undergraduate and graduate students, in order to facilitate their access to the labor market in competitive conditions. Chair will promote technology transfer with the development of joint research projects in matters of common interest. "
