Huermur denounces the detachment of rubble from a facade of the Cathedral of Murcia (08/08/2018)

Huermur points out the poor state of the east facade of the Cathedral of Murcia in the central street Oliver, next to the Chapel of the Vélez, which presents disturbing cracks in the ashlar and cornices.

The entity notes that years ago and reported to the Ministry of Culture cables and pipes that run through all the facades of the emblematic Murcia Cathedral, as well as the installation of light bulbs on the historic roof of the Chapel of los Vélez, without being I have obtained a response and solution.

Huermur will make a report with all the damages that have been found in the exterior facades of the temple, as well as reiterate to the Ministry of Culture the complaints that were presented and that have not been answered to date.

The Association for the Conservation of the Garden and the Heritage of Murcia (Huermur), denounces the detachment of rubble from the east facade of the Cathedral of Murcia as it passes through downtown Oliver Street in the heart of the city.

This facade presents disturbing cracks that threaten more landslides in this historic monument of Murcia, so the Local Police has cordoned off the area with fences to avoid any incidence.

Huermur points out that it is unacceptable that one of the most recognizable monuments of Murcia and the most important in the city present this worrying state of conservation, even having denounced several years ago breaches of cultural heritage legislation, such as weeds, cables, lights, pipes for the facades, etc.

before the administration, without a response and a solution being offered today.

From Huermur note that urgent solutions are urgent in this situation, since the cracks that the facade presents are not at all flattering, and remember that we are facing a monument declared of Cultural Interest (BIC) and with a series of obligations by their owners, such as its proper conservation and protection.

In the same sense, the president of Huermur, Sergio Pacheco, has indicated that "if the most important monument of the city and that is in view of the whole world is in these conditions, nobody can make an idea of the tremendous state of conservation of the heritage in the garden and in the districts of Murcia, a real neglect that runs through every corner of the garden and the heritage of our land.

Finally from Huermur indicate that they will send a letter to the Diocese of Cartagena and Bishop José Manuel Lorca Plans reminding him of the status of the facades of the protected temple, as well as the need to fulfill the obligations stipulated in the law of cultural heritage of the Region of Murcia to be the Cathedral of Murcia, an asset of Cultural Interest.
