The INFOMUR Plan carries out more than 600 surveillances in forest parks to prevent fires (07/08/2018)

The Councilor for Traffic and Public Safety, Lola Sanchez, visited today, along with the director general of Citizen Security and Emergencies, José Ramón Carrasco, the area of Majal Blanco where the municipal device of the INFOMUR Plan is developed, emergency Civil Protection plan by forest fires in the Region of Murcia.

In the first two months since the plan came into operation (on June 1, the troops did not have to intervene in any fire control in forest areas.) Yes, they have carried out 605 surveillances in parks, with more than 12,300 kilometers traveled in off-road and 1,300 on motorcycles, adding about 712 hours of surveillance.

This special device, which will be active until September 30, is composed of local police officers, members of the Fire and Rescue Extinction Service and Civil Protection volunteers.

Councilor Lola Sanchez has emphasized the work done daily by more than 60 agents, firefighters and volunteers in the monitoring of our forest areas and has taken the opportunity to remember 'the importance of collaboration and involvement of all citizens in the fight against fire and in the prevention of forest disasters because we all have the duty to protect the forest and alert emergency services, through the 1-1-2 telephone, of possible suspicious attitudes in the forest or sighting of fire '

Thus, the Ecological Patrol of the Local Police, composed of a corporal and 8 agents, intensifies this summer its usual surveillance in the 44 Forest Parks and Municipal Farms susceptible to suffer fires due to the existence of important arboreal masses.

The device also has the participation of patrols of the Decentralization Unit, supporting the previous ones, especially at night.

The service is carried out by intensive patrolling with special vehicles (off-roading and motorcycles) with which it is possible to move safely through areas of difficult access, often located outside the roads and forest tracks.

In addition, the Fire and Rescue Extinction Service has been reinforced daily, from 8 am to 9 pm, with 4 more personnel (3 firemen and 1 driver), to a total of 41, of which two are assigned to the average outputs as a third fireman, another to the service of Cuba and a driver to the auxiliary service.

High ecological value

Regarding Civil Protection, the service is carried out with two mobile stations composed of a couple of volunteers for each of them (four volunteers per day) with flexible and variable hours, between 12 noon and 8 pm.

These two mobile forest monitoring posts cover two routes.

The first of these runs through Puerto del Garruchal, Camino de los Puros, Camino del El Reloj, El Sequen, La Balsa and El Valle, Sanctuary of La Fuensanta, Cresta del Gallo, Los Forest road, Los Garres.

The second includes Corvera, La Murta, Astronomical Observatory, Pico del Águila, Corvera, Venta El Garruchal, Cabezo de la Plata.

Its fundamental work is to discover foci or signs of possible fires;

monitor the different zones, geographically locate the detected foci, signal access to the fire area and communicate information quickly and efficiently to CECARM.

The affected fuel surface is 30,368 hectares of forest in the municipality of Murcia of the Carrascoy and El Valle Regional Park and special protection areas for birds (ZEPA) in El Valle and Sierra de Altaona and Escalona.
