More than 50 urban sports collectives are part of a participatory process to design Murcia Urban Park (06/08/2018)

The City of Murcia, through the Department of Modernization of Urban Management and Development led by José Guillén and the Department of Infrastructure, Public Works and Services that depends on Rebeca Perez are conducting a participatory process for the creation of Urban Park , a complex for urban sports, which will be located in the Artillery Barracks.

This Urban Park will have more than 10,000 square meters, prepared to practice various sports such as skate, scooter, BMX'S, rollers, urban dance or climbing.

More than 50 groups and individuals are collaborating with the City of Murcia in a participatory process to determine and design the circuit among all.

The City of Murcia has convened this morning the second meeting with representatives of urban groups, as well as technicians from Urbamusa, a company that manages the parking lot of the Artillery Barracks and Councilors José Guillén and Rebeca Pérez, to continue advancing in this project.

This project, part of 'Murcia River', aims to offer a space for leisure and enjoyment for all Murcia.

In the first meeting, the urban dance collectives claimed the creation of a space for dance and for artistic expression, as well as the possibility of increasing the areas established for the 'parkour' and the need to take into account the skating collective of speed, with its respective space designed for its development.

In this participatory work method, some of the requested features are areas with fountains, enable an outlet and audio inputs, exclusive spaces for different sports and suitable ground for each modality, for example a smooth and polished surface for 'breake dance '.

During the meeting, the importance of creating rest spaces and integrating shadows in the complex was also remembered.

Throughout the next weeks there will be several meetings with the groups to discuss and consolidate the established elements, and to detail and adapt the design of the Urban Park.

This space will also be available and suitable for training, competitions, classes or workshops.
