The City of Murcia and the Agricultural Association of Young Farmers of the Region of Murcia (ADEA-ASAJA) will join efforts and resources to advance the promotion of organic farming as a means of protecting the environment and the promotion of a model of development of the sustainable garden.
To ratify that will, Antonio Navarro, councilor for Urbanism, Environment, Water and Garden, and Alfonso Gálvez, general secretary of the agrarian organization, signed this morning the protocol of intentions, which also includes the joint realization of activities to promote environmental awareness, training and education.
The understanding between both parties is based on a shared objective, such as the promotion of actions aimed at protecting the environment and sustainable development of La Huerta, through projects that promote organic farming, responsible management of waste from agriculture (such as the remains of agricultural pruning), the recovery of traditional irrigation networks of the garden and all those elements that contribute, from the most diverse aspects, to the achievement of the municipal strategy against climate change.
Among other aspects, the agreement addresses the proper management of agricultural waste and its reuse and the deepening of advisory functions and training in good practices for the implementation of the climate change adaptation strategy of the municipality of Murcia.
The actions foreseen in the framework of this protocol are broad and diverse.
Thus, the promotion of the techniques and use of ecological cultivation and the strengthening of the municipal land bank system, as well as the promotion of the techniques of crushing the agricultural waste coming from pruning and its reuse are contemplated.
Respectful agricultural uses
The collaboration between both parties also provides for advice and training on techniques and agricultural uses that respect the environment, as well as the recovery of traditional irrigation networks and the promotion of actions aimed at achieving a model of development of the Huerta de Murcia sustainable.
The areas of cooperation also reach the awarding of prizes and aid as a stimulus to good agricultural practices and social awareness about the measures contemplated in the strategy of adaptation to climate change of the City of Murcia.
Awards and grants
In this way, the City Council is committed to facilitate and encourage the realization of activities and take the necessary steps to call for aid or prizes that stimulate the actions envisaged in the protocol.
For its part, Asaja will encourage the participation of its members in the activities and provide advice and training on agricultural techniques and uses that are respectful of the environment and organic farming and will participate actively in the municipal land bank system.
It also undertakes to promote knowledge and dissemination of the measures contemplated in the Adaptation to Climate Change Strategy of the City of Murcia.
