Social Rights exhibits the'gen volunteer 'of Murcia (01/08/2018)

Anyone can devote part of their time to collaborate in a free and stable way in some program of the municipal social services.

Even minors from 14 years old can join, as long as they have the express authorization of their legal representatives.

The way to participate is simple and the City Council, through the Department of Social Rights and Development Cooperation, is responsible for receiving the requests of people interested in getting their "voluntary gene".

The Councilor Conchita Ruiz has detailed the extent of existing projects and activities in which it is possible to collaborate

- School support and reinforcement.

- Accompaniment and personal support at home.

- Accompaniment to cultural, recreational and leisure activities.

- Accompaniment to socio-educational and therapeutic resources.

- Accompaniment and realization of managements.

- Collaboration and participation in leisure activities and free time.

- Participation in campaigns and community activities.

- Support in language learning.

Currently, 188 volunteers (124 women and 64 men) collaborate with the Department in different areas of action, including child care, community actions, active aging, migrants and vulnerability and social inclusion.

"The City Council provides the necessary training so that volunteers can develop their actions in the best possible conditions because our goal is that no person who wants to collaborate is left without doing it because they do not know where to go or what they can do", explained Conchita Ruiz .

In this context, the Department has designed a campaign to raise awareness and value of the volunteers.

Last December the video entitled "Volunteer Gen: You Have It" was made, in which volunteers were given the opportunity to express their experience in the first person.

Today, in order to continue with this line, four complementary videos have been presented, in order to disseminate in a dynamic way the questions that anyone can ask to start a volunteer activity, as well as to provide information on the actions carried out by the Concejalía and in which volunteers can collaborate.

The four axes are:

1.- Why am I a volunteer or a volunteer?

This first video talks about the values that move and defend the volunteers, we choose some words that provide "help, support, change and contribute to a better world"

2.- How can I help?

The second video presents the projects and activities in which volunteering collaborates: projects aimed at children (school reinforcement and free time), support for the elderly, sick, living alone, migrants, helping families with social difficulties and projects of dynamisation in neighborhoods and districts, among others.

3.- I give and I receive

The third video highlights the mutual satisfaction of sharing: "The double reward of giving and receiving, you learn and you receive when you give, the happiness of knowing that you can collaborate and help, share the time."

4.- Special people

The fourth video conveys the idea that all people have something to contribute and we can collaborate in meeting the social needs of other people.

"They are not special people and yet they give added value to the community, to the social, to the pleasure of sharing with the people of the environment, valuing people and making a society more human and less materialistic."

To become a social volunteer of the City of Murcia, it is only necessary to submit the request in writing and the admission is made according to the need for volunteering in the projects and activities.

The incorporation is formalized through a written commitment accepted by both parties.
