32,000 Murcians benefit from the agreement between the City Council, Bankia and the Cajamurcia Foundation (30/07/2018)

The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, and the president of the Cajamurcia Foundation, Carlos Egea, have signed the collaboration agreement between both institutions in order to promote improvement works and various activities in the network of 76 senior social centers, which benefits 32,000 people from different districts and neighborhoods of the municipality.

The agreement that has been renewed, with the presence of the councilor for Social Rights and Development Cooperation, Conchita Ruiz, and the corporate director of the Territorial Bankia in Murcia and Alicante, Olga García, is the contribution of 25,000 euros by Bankia and the Cajamurcia Foundation for this financial year 2018.

These funds will be used mainly for improvement and refurbishment work in these centers, living spaces, assistance and permanent activity, distributed throughout the neighborhoods and districts of the municipality, as well as the development of different cultural and recreational programs and workshops, These include courses in geronto-gymnastics, artistic expression and cognitive stimulation.

It will be the Centers themselves that decide how they will invest the use of these funds.

"I want to thank the Cajamurcia Foundation for coming to the call, not the City of Murcia, but the more than 32,000 older people who come every day to these centers, returning to Murcia society what they receive from it in the performance of its legitimate activity, "said the mayor.

The Cajamurcia Foundation collaborates with the City Council since 1999 with different actions aimed at favoring the care and social promotion of the elderly in the municipality.

During these years, both the improvement of facilities and the development of activities, mainly cultural and recreational events, have been carried out.

The president of Cajamurcia Foundation, Carlos Egea, has indicated that the agreement "contributes to improving the quality of life of the elderly in the city of Murcia, through their participation in programs that promote well-being and active aging" and stressed that "These municipal centers are authentic spaces of coexistence".

The corporate director of the Territory of Bankia in Murcia and Alicante, Olga García, commented that "for Bankia it is a great satisfaction to collaborate with the City of Murcia in assistance programs for the elderly, in this case, helping to maintain the activity of some municipal centers that concentrate a large part of the social and cultural life of this group, which finds in them a place where they can respond to their assistance and leisure needs ".
