The Summer School of Santiago and Zaraiche celebrates its 25th anniversary (30/07/2018)

Thanks to the initiative of the group of volunteers from Santiago and Zaraiche and the support of the City Council, the children will enjoy excursions, sports activities, cultural outings and leisure activities.

Social Rights offers dining aids and has doubled the budget allocated to food expenses during the months of July and August, for minors who do not attend Summer Schools.

The mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta, and the councilor for Social Rights and Development Cooperation, Conchita Ruiz, welcomed the children of the Santiago and Zaraiche Summer School this morning, which celebrates its 25th anniversary.

It is a school driven by ten volunteers, with the support of the City Council, which is attended by fifty children, who today have started activities in the Senior Center of Santiago and Zaraiche.

Thanks to the initiative of the group of volunteers of Santiago and Zaraiche and the support of the City Council, the children will enjoy excursions, sports activities, cultural and leisure outings, as well as picnics for all the days offered by the School of Summer, which will end next August 10th.

The volunteers carry out activities throughout the year with the children of the area, working in a selfless way against social exclusion and for the full integration of the children, establishing a close coordination between the volunteers and the professionals of the Municipal Service of Social Services, It has made it possible for a child with a disability to participate this year.

The 50 children, between the ages of 5 and 13, will participate in a t-shirt workshop, go out to the pool, go down the Segura River, enjoy a day at the beach and four days of camping in Sierra Espuña .

The City Council doubles the food and dining aids

Until the end of this month of July a total of 75 summer schools have been developed, of which 53 have been offered by the Department of Social Rights and Development Cooperation (37 aimed at children between 6 and 12 years and 16 for minors. between 13 and 17 years old) and 22 are made thanks to the collaboration of the Caixa Proinfancia Program.

In total, 2,630 children of the municipality have participated in the Summer Schools promoted by the Department of Social Rights and a total of 1,056 children and adolescents have benefited from the dining service.

Also, the Department of Social Rights and Development Cooperation, has established a line of economic aid for food for the months of July and August, the total being 1,771 children who have these aids, belonging to 844 families.

This year the City Council has doubled the budget allocated to food expenses for children who do not attend Summer Schools, which has resulted in many more children being able to access these resources.

Thus, if in 2017 there were 802 minors who received this aid, for an amount of 172,430 euros, this summer has made an investment of 381,436 euros that is benefiting more than 1,700 children.
